It's Daisy's birthday next month and I am going to surprise her by
giving her a Slide Scanner.

She's got a whole load of monochrome & colour slides & negs.

She has very good taste and, having rejected the cheaper stuff, I am
considering a Minolta, a Canon or a Nikon.

Any experiences good or bad?

I'm in the UK.

Well, my dear, dear hubby bought me an Epson Perfection 3170 Photo
scanner for Christmas and it is awesome! Not only is the Epson
super-easy to use, it's extremely versatile (scan 35mm or medium
format slides, black and white or color negatives, scan text for
editing, use it as a copier, scan business cards into a special
"rolodex" file, etc.), but it does a super job of converting slides
(and negatives) into clear, crisp scans.

I highly recommend it :)

Hi, Kristina

I never even considered an Epson but I shall now add that to my list
because I know from experience what a good Judge you are.

Many thanks

Have you considered a digital camera? I got one last year and I just
love it!!!!!!!!!!! No need for a scanner then. Anyways, whichever you
chose, I do hope that you will post a pic of Daisy for all of us to
see :)

Why, thankees, Bryan.

Kriswrite

P.S. You really can't use a digital camera to convert slides or
negatives. Also, digital cameras don't do a very clean job of copying
text, and they certainly can't make text edit-able.

Hi, Steph53

Daisy already has a great digital camera but, being a female, she is
NEVER satisfied.

Also, the Slide Scanner is a rather specialised, as Kriswrite has confirmed.

Many thanks for the thought ... And, yes, Daisy really ought to be up
in Cyberspace somewhere.

Hmmm...in my household it's the MAN that's never satisfied.

Er...wait a minute. Gosh, I wish there was an EDIT button, cuz I just
realized that statement may reflect upon ME.

Hi, Kristina

I've had a look at the Epson but it's not what we really had in mind.

Daisy's already got a flat-bed scanner but now she would like a
dedicated slide scanner.

Interestingly though, Amazon.com do the Epson for $199.87 (as you
know) but Amazon.co.uk require £179.99. And, as you also know the
exchange rate is around $1 = £0.56 !!!

I've grown up with the exchange rate at around £1 approximating $1.50.
Almost everything in England is more expensive than in the States
anyway, but now that £1 is more like $1.80 the difference is even more
marked.

And I'm also very happy with my Epson Perfection flatbed, so can't
really recommend a dedicated slide scanner.

Hi, Poe

Actually, Daisy (being lazy) would also like to automate the process
... pour in 50 slides ... press a button ... and Hey Presto!

I think that she might also have some commercial enterprise in mind.

All the Best

Bryan
