Here's some info on the educational credentials of Air America Radio
hosts Janeane Garofalo, Al Franken, Chuck D, Lizz Winstead, and Mark
Riley (plus a note about Randi Rhodes).

JANEANE GAROFALO

Janeane Garofalo has a bachelor's degree in American studies and
history (Providence College, 1986):

"Actress, comedienne, and paragon of cynicism Janeane Garofalo was
born on September 28, 1964, in Newton, NJ. During high school, her
family relocated to Houston, TX, where the trauma of the move prompted
her famously insecure, self-loathing persona to begin blossoming in
full. While studying history at Providence College, Garofalo entered a
comedy talent search sponsored by the Showtime cable network, winning
the title of 'Funniest Person in Rhode Island.' Dreaming of earning a
slot on the writing staff of the Late Night With David Letterman
program, she became a professional standup upon graduating college but
struggled for a number of years, working briefly as a bike messenger
in Boston."

"Janeane attended Providence College in Rhode Island and began
performing stand-up in her senior year. Shortly after graduating with
a degree in American Studies and History, she moved to Los Angeles and
made her national television debut on The Dennis Miller Show."

"Janeane Garofalo... This odd combination of beauty, brains and dirty
laundry grew up in small-town Madison, N.J., the daughter of an Exxon
executive and a secretary. Garofalo graduated from Providence College
in 1986 with an eye towards a career in stand-up."

AL FRANKEN

Al Franken has a bachelor's degree in social relations (Harvard University, 1973):

"After Franken graduated from Harvard with a degree in social
relations in 1973, he became a standup comedian and got hired by
Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels."

St. Petersburg Times: Left-brained
http://www.sptimes.com/2003/10/26/Floridian/Left_brained.shtml

"Referred to as a satirist, political commentator, liberal activist
and comedian, Al Franken graduated from Harvard in 1973 and performed
stand-up comedy before joining 'Saturday Night Live' as a writer."

Australian Broadcasting Corporation / Radio National: Al Franken

"JEFF GREENFIELD, HOST: Al, do you remember -- well, where did you go
to college? When did you graduate?

AL FRANKEN, COMEDIAN: I went to Harvard. And I graduated in 1973."

CHUCK D

Chuck D (AKA Carlton Ridenhour) has a bachelor's degree in graphic
design (Adelphi University, 1984):

"Adelphi's where the music bug got me," adds Chuck, who was the first
black student to write and draw College Madness, a comic strip for the
Delphian, the campus paper. Along with a bunch of friends, Chuck D --
who graduated with a graphic design degree despite being kicked out of
school for five semesters for incomplete grades -- promoted hip-hop
parties in Long Island by designing flyers for the events."

"The fact that we have thugs on college campuses is a joke. A college
thug is a terrible oxymoron," said Chuck D, who graduated from Long
Island's Adelphi University in 1984."

LIZZ WINSTEAD

Lizz Winstead dropped out of the University of Minnesota, where she
was majoring in history:

"After letting Winstead talk of 'right-wing loonies and psychos,' Finn
wraps up with this little publicity boost: 'Jeopardy!' is winding down
on her television. Ms. Winstead, a University of Minnesota history
major and fact-hoarder who dropped out to perform stand-up, is a fan
of the show, and of Scrabble: she has every edition ever made."

"At the University of Minnesota, she was studying to be a history
professor, but 18 credits shy of graduation she left to do stand-up."

One more note:

I have found nothing to indicate that Randi Rhodes ever attended
college. She is a veteran of the US Air Force, so I would assume that
she has a high school diploma or the equivalent.

"Her radiogenic odyssey started in Seminole, Texas where she was a
waitress in a Mexican restaurant to support her radio habit. She made
it to New York, Dallas, and Milwaukee before settling in South Florida
(WIOD-Miami) and currently West Palm Beach (WJNO). Randi was also
voted 'Most Outstanding Woman' in the Air Force in 1979."
