Question ID: 334278
I would like to use a mobile phone as a microphone input and recieve
the speaker output from the PC, using bluetooth.

So to clarify the phone would pair with the PC. Then speaking into the
mobile phone's handset microphone would be relayed as an input on the
PC.. and any output to the PC's speakers would be routed to the Mobile
phones, embedded speaker (the earpiece)

I should clarify that I am looking for a concrete solution and
implementation. Not just "given what do bluetooth can do, then it is
possible"

Cheers

Do you need a concrete solution for a specific mobile phone, or would
a description/implementation of this on any phone be a satisfactory
answer to the question?

Clarification for Celebrate-ga

Thanks. I am not looking for a general description of how to implement
this. I am looking for a concrete implementation on a phone.
i.e yes, supplier xyz sells a solution for this.
As regards the model of the phone. A solution for any symbian phone
would be fine.

Regards Peter

In all seriousness... why - wouldn't a cheap microphone / speakers be
more practical?

You missed my point - without knowing the application you want to use
this system for and why a mic/speakers wouldn't work it's quite
difficult to suggest a proper solution. Aside from that, I was
interested - no need to turn on the sarcasm.

In response to ccaygill-ga.

You started your original post "In all seriousness...". I think you
set the tone of our interchanges.

Am I being serious, yes I am.
Do I want to use a speaker/microphone. No.
Do I Need an "alternative solution". No.

The question still stands. Anyone else?

I put "In all seriousness" because I thought if I just put "why -
wouldn't a cheap microphone / speakers be more practical?" you would
ignore it.

I understand you're asking a serious question, I understand that you
don't want to use a mic/speakers but I just wanted to know why...

Ok point taken, but I do not feel the need to expand on the reasons.
Trying to keep things simple, rather than get into a wider debate.

Its possible but I think it requires some Symbian developer
man-hours!! Lemme know if you agree.

In order for it to be possible the developers would have had to expose
both the Mic and the Speaker to the Bluetooth chipset, and considering
that as far as I know, Phone developers do not even expose those to
the Computer when interfaced via a data cable and that BlueTooth on
cellphones is supposed to be used as a modem the likelyhood that it is
possible without physicial modification to your phone is near none.

Did you find an app for this as I am looking for this as well.

Sorry arelius-ga I agree with prakashsainani-ga
This should be possible as you have a fully
programable serial connection between the pc and the phone.
In theory you should be able to develop this as the speech capture
and play is available in the symbian OS.

I only started looking at this today.

So I will post more soon

Hi Peter,

Donno why u wanna do this, but its a fantastic idea. I donno the
details but the BT (British Telecom) Bluephone project uses it. So u
have a SonyEricsson P900 (Symian based) and it connects via Bluetooth
to your fixed-line phone (with Bluetooth now) to transfer calls made
from P900 (not Sure of this though) to fixed-line while at home and
then there's a soft handover to Vodafone N/w as you move out.
Ambitious project from BT & Vodafone, but am equally doubtful if it
would churn $$$$$$

Hi Peter,
Sorry did not speak of nething concerning your problem. So what u need
is a Bluetooth telephony stack implementation n either Series 60/80/90
or UIQ platform (Platforms built on Symbian OS). Go either for Series
60 or UIQ, preferably Series 60 (volumes!). This could be done using
the public SDK available from Nokia, so should not involve much money.
However from what I know, typical consultancies may bill you to the
tune of $18k for such a project. Guessing u r based in US,
Taprootsystems is one of the consultancies there. Other than that u
have Atelier(French), Digia (Finnish) and EMCCSoft(British). Lemme
know if you want further information. If you want to do it yourself,
ask me and I can help u with some code as I have been working on a
similar app (no similarity in description but similar in pratical
implementation) for quite some time know.

Yes,
windows xp, nokia 6820 phone:
install blutooth card/dongle and software widcomm version 1.4 or higher on PC
(needed for nokia phones)
Activate bluetooth on phone and PC and pair up
In the blutooth software there will be an "audio gateway" service,
simply click on this and choose the phone as the audio gateway - this
activates the phone as a microphone for the PC (input) and also acts
as the PCs speaker (output).
But before this works gointo control pannel - sounds and audio devices
- click on audio devices and change the drop down boxes on sound
playback and sound recording to the phone.
I have used this set up and also a bluetooth headset using this method
to dictate speech using xp speech recognition - all worked fine
