I would like to know if there is a service that will convert your
regular old fashioned compact discs into mp3 files for you. When I say
old fasioned-- I mean regular music compact discs that have been
around for years; the kind one buys in a music store. I want a service
that converts these CD's into new CD's that have mp3 files on them
that is the music from the CD provided. To re-phrase, a service that
you give them your CD's, in return they gve you new cds with mp3 files
on them that is all the music that you provided to them with your 'old
style' CD's. Very important note: I am not looking for equipment to do
this. I am well aware of products that do this. Please do not answer
this question with products that do this. The answer I am looking for
is a commercial service that does this task for you. In other words--
you mail them 150 CD's, they mail you back your CD's and new CD's with
the music converted to mp3 files. I would like to know if this type of
commerial service exists anywhere, at any price. If it does exists,
please cite several places where this service is offered.

Hello Puravida77,

I located one service, based in New York that converts your CDs into
MP3 files for about a dollar a CD, in just a few days.

Here?s how it works: box up your CDs (they supply the box and packing
material), send them , and a few days later you will receive data DVDs
with your entire music collection in CD-quality sound organized by
artist and album, along with your CDs.

You can also pay extra for all your music to be loaded onto a new
external hard drive.

Would this service be of your interest?

Thanks,
Bobbie7

Bobbie7, that is exactly what I am looking for. Please let me know
whetehr there are other like it (competitors). I have **Hundreds** of
CDs to convert-- and price is an issue at that quanitity. So are there
other servcies like the one you found? Good work so far !!
Thanks!
Note to Scarbonie; I already have equipment and software to do this
conversion. I am only interested in a service because the time
investment to do this myself would be enormous. In other words "the
outsourcing" of the work is the whole point :->

RipDigital is the online service that converts your CD collection into
an MP3 library

Pay Service Turns CDs into MP3s

?RipDigital is another sign that music is steadily going digital...
For about a dollar a disc, the company converts entire CD collections
to MP3 files, all nicely organized by artist and album. Instead of
downloading MP3s from file-trading networks and ripping them to CDs,
customers are more interested in converting their CD archives into
MP3s.?

?For a price, you can hire a service to do the grunt work for you.
RipDigital will mail a spindle that you load with CD's, which you ship
back. In about a week, you'll get your CD's back, plus one or more
discs that contain all of your music in MP3. It costs a little more
than one dollar per CD. You can also pay extra for all your music to
be loaded onto a new external hard drive.?

Puravida77,

While it may be an option to pursue paying someone for this service,
using your computer, you can do the same process for absolutely no
money whatsoever. This is barring of course the electric bill.
Download Winamp 5+ located here: www.winamp.com . This program comes
with a rather extensive help file regarding the ripping of CD sound to
.mp3 files. Although it is a moderately involved practice, with a
little time, you can produce quality .mp3 files. I would reccomend
ripping at a rate of at leat 160 Kbps in joint stereo, to preserve
decent sound quality.

Best of luck to you,

Scarbonie

On the Macintosh side, iTunes will rip CDs and access the CDDB, thus
giving you titles, artists and other info for each CD. Now that Apple
is releasing some Macintosh applications cross-platform, you can get
iTunes for Windows. The download site is:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and the informational site is:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/ .

This should help you...It would take a weekend or two with Winamp or
iTunes, both of which are excellent. Just be ready to swap CDs every 5
minutes.

audio files that can be used by today?s home, portable, and automotive
audio players including MP3 jukebox products and personal computers.

Get Digital's patent pending high-speed transfer service can convert
your collection to MP3s in a few hours and then return your collection
the next day on the media of your choice."

Thanks so much for your commentary, Scarbonie--you were a lot of help
on this one! The next time I see a question begging an uninformed
version of the obvious response, as specifically and repeatedly
discouraged by the author, I hope to see another of your insightful
followups at the end of the thread.

I found this which I thought might be of interest, another company
that has recently (June 17 2004) started offering a similar service:
