Seeking info on the form of martial arts known as muay thai (sometimes
it's spelled slightly differently, such as my thai). Would especially
like info on what exactly muay thai is, the specific steps/moves that
muay thai students would learn, and how this differs from other forms
of martial arts.

Typing "muay thai" in Google web search yields thousands of results
and I think you have already done that. I don't want to dissapoint you
by giving you the same sites that you may have already visited. Are
you seeking info from available online sources?

Yes, I have done a basic search, but - as you noted - there are a ton
of sites. Many of the ones I visited were for muay thai schools,
clubs, etc. and mainly had info about their specific organization. I'm
trying to find general info about muay thai and the moves/techniques
involved. If you can find any online sources that list that info - or
even point me in the right direction of any books or movies that
feature muay thai - it'd be great. Thanks very much!

Hi Magwriter-ga

Thanks for replying to my inquiry. In answering your question I asked
a Thai friend regarding the correct spelling. Although there are
slight differences in spelling (like you said) the correct one is
"Muay thai" which means "Thai kickboxing". Some spell it as "Muang
thai" but it is wrong because it means "City of Thailand". Like the
Chinese, Thailand has its own alphabet characters like the one on this
site:

According to my friend, the spelling of "Muay thai" is based on the
pronounciation and that is the reason why there are different
spelling. "Muay thai" is the accepted form or "correct" spelling. Here
are other possible "incorrect" spellings you may find:

Muai thai
Muai tai
Muai tei
Muey thai
Muey tai
Muey tei
Muy thai
Muy tai
Muy tei
Moi thai
Moi tai
Moi tei
Moai thai
Moai tai
Moai tei
