I believe he painted two pictures with the same theme. 1-"The
proposal" showing a man leaning toward his intended. 2-"The Ring"
showing him putting the ring on her finger. I have "The proposal" and
am wondering what the value would be 1- in auction,2-for insurance
purpose.

This is for denco-ga Re Emil Brack
    It is signed.
    It is not dated.
    The size is 35" x 27 1/2"
    Provenance: No. But it may have been purchased in Boston, Mass in
the 1920's or 30's. It has been in my family for that length of time.
    The man is sitting to the girls left and is holding her left hand.
I have heard there is a companion painting where he is placing the
ring on her finger,  in the same setting.  Good Luck!!

I found, along with an insurance estimate, etc.) for the recent auction
that I found, along with the auction house contact information, and you
can pursue sending images, etc. to them for possibly more information.

The auction house seems relatively interested in your piece, but there
are always authenticity and condition issues, etc.

Keep in mind that the example I provided is not the piece that recently sold
at auction.  The size you gave of 35" x 27 1/2" is quite a bit bigger than
the one pictured on the page I provided.

It might be well worth to either buy an inexpensive digital camera, or see if
a friend could take some digital images, as the piece you have, might, under
the right conditions, be worth a bit of money.

to proceed from this point.  I do think you will find this to be good news.

At auction, your painting might be worth a mid-5-figure number.  I do have a
specific dollar range, but the painting would have to travel to Europe for it
to obtain that kind of sales price.

If you want, you could repost the question, please specifying it to be for
denco-ga.  Also, it would help to know (for the auction house) if you are
interested in auctioning your Brack painting.

I have found out the following information; the auction estimate for your
painting if it were to be auctioned in the place to give you the best return.
The location for that would not be in the U.S., but would be in Europe instead.
In the U.S., the value at auction would appear to be substantially less than
that estimate.

It is remarkable that I was able to acquire the estimate without payments for
appraisals, etc.  It is doubtful that such information could be obtained on a
estimate for a U.S. auction under similar terms.

Based on that European auction estimate, I could also provide a educated guess
at a range of valuation for insurance as well.

If the above information would be of value to you, and as the question here has
expired, you could post a new question requesting said information, if desired.
