I believe he painted two pictures with the same theme. 1-"The
proposal" showing a man leaning toward his intended. 2-"The Ring"
showing him putting the ring on her finger. I have "The proposal" and
am wondering what the value would be 1- in auction,2-for insurance
purpose. |

If you don't mind, beagle6750-ga, a few questions, please.
- Is the piece signed?
- Is the piece dated?
- The size of the piece?
- Is there any kind of provenance, and if so, in what form?
All of the above affects value so it might help Researchers to know.
Thanks! denco-ga - Google Answers Researcher

This is for denco-ga Re Emil Brack
It is signed.
It is not dated.
The size is 35" x 27 1/2"
Provenance: No. But it may have been purchased in Boston, Mass in
the 1920's or 30's. It has been in my family for that length of time.
The man is sitting to the girls left and is holding her left hand.
I have heard there is a companion painting where he is placing the
ring on her finger, in the same setting. Good Luck!!

Howdy beagle6750-ga,
Greatly appreciate your patience with this. I have been in correspondence
with an auction house that recently sold a painting by Brack.
There are two things I would appreciate, if possible.
If you could go the following web page and see if the signature and style
of painting matches yours please.
http://www.auction-bergmann.de/ger/detail.asp?historyback=true&searchfield=T3_CatNo&nachverkauf=&searchstring=1132&nextrec=0&T1_ID=73&T2_ID=7309&T3_ID=169835
If you could post some pictures of the painting, then the auction house
could review them, and might be able to provide more information. Some
free services to use are:
Yahoo has one such service.
http://photos.yahoo.com/
Be sure to set the pictures to be publicly viewable. Once done, place
a link here to your picture please.
There is also Photobucket.

Howdy beagle6750-ga,
Alternatively, I could post the information (auction price of the piece
I found, along with an insurance estimate, etc.) for the recent auction
that I found, along with the auction house contact information, and you
can pursue sending images, etc. to them for possibly more information.
The auction house seems relatively interested in your piece, but there
are always authenticity and condition issues, etc.

hello denco-ga
the signature is the same, and the living room or sitting room is
similar. The two people are dressed the same. I can not send picture
as I do not have that capability. You do have the size of my painting?
can you send me a translation of the German discription sent along
with your photo?

Howdy beagle6750-ga,
Keep in mind that the example I provided is not the piece that recently sold
at auction. The size you gave of 35" x 27 1/2" is quite a bit bigger than
the one pictured on the page I provided.
Courtesy of the Google translation function, here is a rough translation.

"Brack Emil. - 1905 Munich 'recent pair in the civil Interieuer' water color,

It might be well worth to either buy an inexpensive digital camera, or see if
a friend could take some digital images, as the piece you have, might, under
the right conditions, be worth a bit of money.
