Hi cilfrew,

After several hours of random thoughts entering my head, I have your answer:

85.000.000 Total Losses of Barings Bank due to Nick Leeson.

The number - 85.000.0000 - is an order of magnitude out which didn't
help. The correct figure is 850.000.000

The figure of £850 million is indicated on the following web sites:

http://business.scotsman.com/topics.cfm?tid=219&id=147422002

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_243246.html?menu=

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,8209-1129753,00.html

If any of the other answers pop into my head I will post them here,
although don't hold your breath!

If you require any clarification please do not hesitate to ask.

Regards,
lotd

Sorry but this cannot be the answer because the actual reading is:

85,000,000 T L of B B due to N L

I am sorry, but after exhaustive thinking and research, I have been
unable to come up with a different solution.

One possible solution I spent a lot of time on was based around the
fact that 85,000,000 Km is the distance from the earth to the sun.
Unfortunately, this proved fruitless.

As probonopublico mentions in his comment, I strongly suspect that
there is a possibility of a typo from the original source.

You may apply for a refund here:

While applying for a refund, you can opt to repost your question. This
will make it available to other researchers who will hopefully provide
you with the answer you are looking for.

Kind regards,

It sounds like a promissory note. Someone, the person who made the
promissory note, apparently owes 85 million "T L" of "B B" to "N L".

Do you know anyone whose intials are "N L"?

Do you trade in or have knowledge of a commodity or product with the
initials "B B"?

As to the "L," perhaps "liters" or "lire"?

4 I in a H is probably "4 Inches in a Hand."

A hand is a unit of measure:

"hand
4 inches or 10.16 cm. Derived from the width of the hand. Used for
measuring the height of horses at withers."

'84343 the S of S at S L in MPS' sounds like 'the speed of sound at
sea level in meters per second' however the correct number for this
is about 332 meters per second, not 84343

It is just too much of a coincidence that lotd-ga's answer should work
so beautifully with a number that is precisely 10x larger and I
believe that there was a typo in the original source.

Go for it!

85.000.000 TL

85 million turkish lira

In turkey, they write recipts/price tags (everything) with fullstops
instead of commas. Aswell as they put TL not the official TRL.

1 million tl (1.000.000 TL) is equal to about 1 AUD (australia dollar) for example.

Not sure if this helps.. but hey, worth a mention :)
