I watched Ronald Reagan's State funeral this morning on C-Span. At
the end of the service after the last prayer and as the bishops
preceeded the casket's exit, a certain musical theme was played, first
with more crescendo and then a second time with a more quiet volume.
It functioned essentially as a recessional. Could you give me the
title/author of that music?

From the Office of the Director of Music:

Recessional begins on fourth verse (orchestra only)

ANTHEM ? THE MANSIONS OF THE LORD
 Nick Glennie-Smith
?Text by Randall Wallace

The United States Armed Forces Chorus

To fallen soldiers, let us sing,
Where no rockets fly or bullets wing
Our broken brothers let us bring
To the Mansions of the Lord.
No more bleeding, no more fight
No prayers pleading through the night,
Just divine embrace, eternal light
In the Mansions of the Lord.
Where no mothers cry and no children weep
We will stand and guard though the angels sleep
All through the ages safely keep
The Mansions of the Lord.

Were Brothers? (2002)]

I have been humbled and moved by President Reagan's moral convictions,
personal faith in Jesus Christ, his kindess to those who disagreed
with him and his love for all of us - his countrymen; to me, he has
been the greatest leader of my lifetime, and so his funeral meant a
great deal to me.

When the Mansions of the Lord began to play as I watched his funeral,
I was overwhelmed and began to weep, so thank you, bobbie7, for
finding this for me. Thank you very much.

p.s. pinkfreud - thank you for the .wav file! Magnificent.

The Office of the Director of Music must have been a bit hasty in
preparing the notes. I believe the film is We Were Soldiers:

http://www.weweresoldiers.com/

A listing and sample of each cut on the soundtrack can be found at

http://www.sonynashville.com/WeWereSoldiers/

The complete attribution of the performers on the soundtrack is "US
Military Academy Glee Club and Metro Voices". And yes, it is a very
stirring piece.

The music heard at the recessional was adapted from Mansions of the
Lord. The arrangement for the service was quite a bit different than
what is on the
"We Were Soldiers" soundtrack. That being said, I tried to re-create
the arrangement the best I could from memory using existing audio
files from the soundtrack. If you are interested I could send you a
copy. (MP3 format).

I, too, was *so* impressed with the recessional music at Ronald
Reagan's funeral. I searched on the net most of yesterday trying to
find the name of the final anthem.

Thanks so much to those of you who thought enough to ask Google!

In addition to the anthem's being very stirring, it was also very
sorrowful. Brought me to my knees.

I was amazed to watch President Reagan's funeral and hear this song
too. It was so stirring I cried my eyes out watching them carry out
his casket. I will have to buy this soundtrack. I'm so glad I could
find the information here! THANKS!

Swansk8r:
The music appears to have been composed for the movie. Also, the
lyrics are by the film's director. See the following review:
http://www.musicfromthemovies.com/review.asp?ID=1872

I am not familar with the film, but this reviewer notes that the
chorale is only sung during the end credits, while the musical theme
is found throughout the film. I believe the audio clip linked to above
by pinkfreud is the music over the end credits. Note that the music
played at the film's web site that I linked above is the musical theme
with the melody in a solo trumpet. That's the "I'll Go With You" track
in the original motion picture score CD.

Hey jbasedow, at the risk of being a pain, will you please send that
clip of The Mansions of the Lord to me, too? THANKS!!

Thanks to everyone for this great info!!

If anyone is interested, the US Military Academy (West Point)'s Glee
Club has this song on a CD. They're the ones that sang it for the We
Were Soldiers movie. I found it at

jbasedow-ga,
I was completely undone by the recessional arrangement as I watched it
on cspan. Incredibly moving and so appropiate. I found this thread
yesterday looking for the music before you posted your effort to
recreate the arangement. I would be grataeful for a copy of your MP3
recreation of the recesional.

I know that you must be really regretting offering the "The Mansions
of the Lord" .mp3 by now, but could you be so kind as to send out one
more to me?

I can not begin to explain just how much that piece moved me. I was
moved to tears and had to sit down and watch what was left of the
Memorial. EVERYTHING about the service was above and beyond, but what
an impact the ending was!

Needless to say, I started searching right away for the name of that
song and could not find it anywhere! I even started writing letters
to anyone and eveyrone I could think of who might know it & still no
luck.

A BIG Thank you to all who posted the name of that beautiful piece - &
I'm sure my Husband thanks you too. All weekend long, I have been
talking about how I need to find it & I'm sure he's sick of hearing
about it by now; even though he totally agrees with me on it's beauty,
just not my obsesion! LOL

Thank you all again so much!!

I'm desperately looking for the chords to this piece! If anyone has a
fakebook or hymnal with the chords in it, could you please please post
them? It would be very much appreciated! I am planning on playing a
guitar/voice duet with a friend of mine at a memorial service, and
this song has me stuck! Thanks!

jbasedow - I so dearly would love to have a copy of Your MP3, I posted
last night, but my message with withdrawn, as I put my email address?

I watched The Funeral here in England Live on Friday afternoon, and it
was that moment as the Casket was carried from the National Cathedral
that truly moved me and had tears flowing down my face.

Copies of the "We were Soldiers" CD must be flying out of the stores,
I found one on the net in the USA Sunday and it is on it's way. I
would love the original though CD from the Cadet Glee Club titled The
Vocie of the Corps but you can only order it from West Point by phone.

Another piece of music used recently at an important Funeral I listened
to on the net used "God be with You, Until We meet Again" again that
broke me down, how talented writers are of music and lyrics.

Many Thanks John

All of the music at President Reagan's funeral was beautiful, but the
recessional was the crowning glory! I have never heard a more moving
piece of music. Thanks to everyone for the links provided, especially
pinkfreud! I just could not get that tune out of my head. It's nice to
know that others feel the same way.

Tonight, I watched young Ron Reagan being interviewed by Chris
Matthews. Ron said that the Reagan family was so moved by all of the
music, especially the recessional, and it was very difficult to keep
the tears from flowing.

download the sheet music at http://www.musicnotes.com for $4.95...four
part, choral. The key is 5 flats, so for guitar you'll probably want
to transpose.

Glad I finally found this web site information. Thanks for the name of
the song. Now there's one more out there on the
ronaldreaganmemorial.com web site under the view images section that
plays with the slide show (95 pictures of the funeral). It's the last
song and it's instrumentaland equally as beautiful. Does anyone know
what that song is?

Jbasedow-- If you could send me a copy of your format of the Mansions

you for your MP3 format, if you could be so kind to send it to me that
would be great. The soundtrack is just not the same for me.

jbasedow,

I too would truly cherish a mp3 copy of your arrangement of "The
Mansions of the Lord."

"Mansions of the Lord" is perhaps the most moving, captivating and
emotional piece of music that I've heard in a very long time. Like
others, I searched high and low for any information on the song in the
days following the service. Several times a week I've thinked about
it, and thanks be to Google that I have finally found the promised
land.

I believe "Mansion of the Lord" could be the "anthem" of the next
generation, and it could have the same kind of impact on American
Heritage as Amazing Grace has had. It certainly deserves that kind of
affection.

So if you're still monitoring these posts, jbasedow, I too would luv
the audio files.

I would be most appreciative.
