Help!!!!!!!!!
I used to save all my uploaded pictures ( from my digital camera ) in
JPEG format which opened with Microsoft Photo Editor.
Suddenly, I can't save my pictures this way. Now they show as bit map
( BMP file ) and only open with Imaging.............

I don't like this at all and don't know what happened?

I don't have any choices except BMB when I go to save picture.
And in the Microsoft Photo Editor site, all the tabs are now greyed out.

Can anyone help me to save my pics to JPEG again????

Howdy, Steph!

This kind of problem can have multiple causes. A few months ago, when
I found that I couldn't save images as anything other than .bmp files,
my fix was to clear the cache (delete temporary Internet files).

To clear your Internet Explorer cache, click 'Tools', click 'Internet
Options', click 'Delete Files', then click 'OK'.

Here's some info from the Microsoft Knowledge Base that may help:

Please let me know if this provides a solution for you. If not, of
course, we'll keep trying.

Well Pinkfreud....

You saved the day once more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cleared my IE cache (
hadn't done so for a long time ) and I have my Jpeg files back.... :)

I just have a teensy question though. The pics I have saved in Imaging
.bmp files, is there any way I can change them to Jpeg now? I tried it
but to no avail. No big deal if its too complicated ...

Anyway, please post your answer and thanks!!!!!!!

Steph,

I'm glad to have been able to help! I've reposted my remarks below.

Regarding the matter of changing the saved .bmp files to .jpg, the
suggestion made by the helpful commenter crythias-ga is an excellent
one. IrfanView is a remarkable and very useful program which is
capable of batch conversion. There are other programs that can do
this, but most of them are not freeware.

IrfanView
http://www.irfanview.com/

"In IrfanView you can use Batch conversion which will convert all the
files at once. From IrfanView use File / BatchConversion then click
the Batch conversion button and select "Select Advanced Options". You
need to select the files you want to convert, and their output
directory."

Google Web Search: "bmp to jpg" + "batch"

If you need any assistance with IrfanView, just let me know.

Incredible as usual!!! Fast, helpful and courteous!!!!!!!! Thanks
Pinkfreud for helping me get my pics back!! I would have never have
thought it would be so simple as merely deleting my cache. Duh me...I
will do that on a regular basis from now on. Thanks again...

Don't forget that your camera probably already saves the images as
.jpg directly. If you connect your camera, it may show up as a drive
letter and you can copy the files directly from the camera. But, I
agree with the answerer :-) Clean your cache!

PS: if you want to convert the .BMPs to .JPGs en masse, try Irfanview
(free) www.irfanview.com. Besides batch conversion, it also can make
slideshows.

Thanks crythias-ga....

I will certainly try that site. I, myself, upload all my digital pics
from ofoto.com, but the ones I received lately, in e-mails from my
friends, I would like to convert back to JPEG...

*WHEW* another disaster averted here...lol

Steph,

A friend of mine who read this question recommends a shareware program
called "Image Converter," which can convert files from one type to
another in batch mode, and also offers many image-manipulating
effects:

Thanks Pinkfreud...

I'll take a look at the site. Thanks again for your quick help on
here. The problem with my pics is now solved and I'll try the site and
to see if my saved BMP. files can be converted to Jpeg.
Have a great day!
