Dear mcisencraft-ga
Here are seven accounts for you. Please refer to the original articles
for the full story.
The first is the experience of a British soldier in WWI.
"This Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) bible and tin were
responsible for saving the life of their owner, Corporal Frank
Richards 3526, of the 6th Liverpool Rifles. Cpl Richards carried them
into battle somewhere in Northern France during the First World War.
He was shot but the bible saved his life by deflecting the bullet away
from his heart and he was lucky to escape with bruised ribs. The
bullet hole can clearly be seen to pass straight through the bible."
The bible is now in the National Museums Liverpool, UK. This page
carries a picture of the bible.

David Knapp, a Korean War veteran, said a bullet hole in a Bible was
his testimony of God's protection. He had been supplied with a
gold-plated bible.
"When he returned to the bridge building detail - and into possible
enemy fire - he replaced the Bible in the left hand pocket of his
uniform over his heart.
It was during one of those moments with the scriptures, that Knapp,
just 21, discovered he had been hit.
"First I saw the bullet hole in the plate so I followed the hole ... I
read it to where the hole ended. It ended at the 23rd Psalm," he said.
?The lead from the bullet was crushed up," he said. "I don't know what
I was hit with, shrapnel or whatever. Pieces of lead were still folded
up on that page, the 23rd Psalm.? "

This an incident from 2001 in the US.
"Sixteen-year-old Kenny Wallace was standing near the entrance to the
storefront church he attends in North Fort Myers last Sunday when his
mother allegedly drove up in a car and fired one shot at him. Police
say she hit her mark, but what saved Kenny's life is that the Bible he
was holding took the brunt of the gunshot."

Patrick Caruso fought at Iwo Jima during WWII. This from a review of
his autobiography.
"Caruso's survival turns out to be even more amazing when he reveals
what he found upon being evacuated from Iwo, i.e., his steel shaving
mirror, which he was using as a bookmark in the Bible carried in his
pocket over his heart, had been hit by a bullet. The Bible and its
bookmark had saved his life, a picture of both are in the book. His
edition of the Bible had dated pages for reading throughout the year.
The impact of the bullet broke the binding so that it would always
open to May 16, which is ironic as it was the day this wounded
survivor of Iwo finally returned to America via a hospital ship (and
it's this reviewer's birthday). "

At the Texas State History Museum is Sam Houston?s bible.
"Valor features the Bible that saved the life of Sam Houston, Jr.
during the Civil War battle of Shiloh when a bullet lodged in its
pages, stopping at the 70th Psalm: "O God: Thou art my help and
deliverer." "

"It was at the battle of Shiloh, where the younger Houston, who fought
against the Union despite his father's opposition to secession, would
likely have died had not a bullet headed for his back torn instead
into his mother's Bible, which he carried in his knapsack.
Ripping through the pages, the ball stopped at the 70th Psalm: "O God:
Thou art my help and my deliverer." "

This is from the family history of Julius Glover Elmore, of Arkanas
"During the siege Julius was standing atop the breastworks when a
Federal bullet struck him in the chest. He fell close to his Captain,
James Frankline. Thinking him dead Captain Franklin ordered the troops
nearby to pull him out of the way. But Julius was not dead or even
wounded. He was in the habit of carrying a pocket Testament in his
breast pocket. The Federal miniball penetrated almost through the
small bible and Julius was only struck unconscious. The small bible
had saved his life. He managed to bring the bible home with him after
the war with the miniball still embedded inside."

From Irag is this report of an Iraqi?s story.
"One day in March, Eliyah said, he and three other men were driving to
work when insurgents opened fire on their vehicle. Two of the men
died. Eliyah was shot once in the arm and twice in the legs.
But a fourth bullet, one that probably would have killed him, hit a
Bible and small notebook in Eliyah's shirt pocket. The Bible now has a
small hole through it - the bullet was found imbedded in the notebook,
right over Eliyah's heart.
"He says if not for the Bible, he would not have survived," Farag told
his open-mouthed comrades. "
