I need a list of OB/GYN practices and docs in the US by city or
county. The list should include, at a minimum, addresses. Preferably
it would contain phone numbers as well.

It's possible to access OB/GYN names on a state by state basis.

For instance, there are 84 OB/GYN's listed in Alaska. The list looks like this:

Peter Bruce Adams , MD ANCHORAGE, AK 99508

Stacey Lea Anderson , MD OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY EAGLE RIVER, AK 99577

Bobbie J Behrens , MD SOLDOTNA, AK 99669

Owen Ramsey Bell , MD ANCHORAGE, AK 99508

etc.

=====

Clicking on an individual doctor's name pulls up a more detailed record:

Peter Bruce Adams MD
STE 425
3260 PROVIDENCE DR
ANCHORAGE, AK 99508

Gender:Male

Office Phone:
907-561-7111

Medical School:
UNIV OF WA SCH OF MED, SEATTLE WA 98195

Residency Training:
MAYO GRAD SCH MED/MAYO FNDN, OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY

Primary Specialty
OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY

Major Professional Activity:
OFFICE BASED PRACTICE

==========

You could also access the data a city at a time by entering, e.g,
Anchorage into the search form.

If this is the type of information you're looking for, let me know and
I will post details on accessing the data as an answer to your
question.

P.S. The list is focused on individual doctors, rather than the names
of clinics and group practices. However, it appears to be fairly
comprehenisve in terms of reaching most of the practicioners in the
state.

I have identified a number of online sources that charge for this
information. I am looking for a directory that won't bust the bank.

The data I cited above is available at no charge...sorry I didn't make
this clear at the outset.

Hello again, tremont1-ga.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Turns out there are several sources of information that will be of use
to you, I think. I have listed them below...

==========

The American Medical Association at:

http://www.ama-assn.org/

operates a find-a-physician service which you can link to directly at:

http://dbapps.ama-assn.org/aps/amahg.htm

"AMA Physician Select provides basic professional information on
virtually every licensed physician in the United States and its
possessions, including more than 690,000 doctors of medicine (MD) and
doctors of osteopathy or osteopathic medicine (DO)..."

Click on the "Search for a physician" link at the "Patients &
Consumer" heading on this page to take you to the "Terms and
Conditions" page. Click on "Accept" after reading their disclaimer,
and you'll wind up at options to "Search for a physician by"

--Physician Name or

--Medical Specialty

Click on "Medical Specialty" and then select your first state of
interest from the "Choose a State" pull-down menu. Also select the
"Obstetrics & Gynecology" option from the "Select a Specialty"
pull-down menu. Click on "Search".

For some states, this will be all you need...the search will return
the list of all the OB/GYN's in the state.

However, AMA's search function maxes out at 150...if there are more
than 150 OB/GYN's in a state, you'll have to back up and search one
city at a time (or one zip code at a time) in order to get at the
listing information.

For small states, there's no need to do this, but for the more
populous states this search method will be a necessary hassle, I'm
afraid. But it will certainly get you the city-by-city results you
were after.

Another resource that you should be aware of is the listing of doctors
provided by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists:

http://www.acog.org/

They also offer a doctor-finding service by clicking on the
"find-a-physician" hyperlink in the upper left of the homepage. After
accepting the disclaimer, you'll wind up at a map of the US.

You can click on any state of interest to get a list of towns and
cities in the state, then click again to get a listing of OB/GYN's in
your town/city of choice. The list does not provide full address and
phone information, but I thought you might like to be aware of the
resource just in case.

==========

Lastly, it is also possible to search online Yellow Pages listings for OB/GYN's.

For instance, I often use the SuperPages site for phone book searches:

http://www.superpages.com/

Enter [ Obstetrician ] in the keyword box, and select your state of
interest, then click on "Find It".

The next page will offer the category matching your search term:

"Gynecology & Obstetrics Physicians & Surgeons"

Click on this, and you'll be taken to a list of doctors, along with
other services (clinics, service providers) listed under this heading.
Clicking on any listing will take you to additional information,
including, of course, phone numbers.

==========

Hope this does the trick.

Before rating this answer, please let me know if you have any
questions about the information here, or if there is anything else I
can help you with.

Cheers,
