What is the name of a song that was heard on the radio in Fort Worth, Tex
1938(39?)probably recorded by a "big band". Lyrics are close to this
-
Give me a book that's entertaining while I'm lying in the hay
To while away the hours on a simmery summer day
I want to be lazy like a daisy in the middle of July
And watch the pretty pictures in the sky
Ho Hum, dreaming in the sun
Im the lucky one its true,
Ho Hum, I'm not so very dumb
I'll bet you'd like to dream there too
What is the use of hustle bustle?
Find a little time to play
And you'll never simmer on a summer day.

Hello.

Your song is "On A Simmery Summery Day" (Words & music by James Cavanaugh,
John Redmond & Frank Weldon).

Listen to this song file of a 1940 recording by Tony Pastor & His
Orchestra (includes the exact lyrics that you describe):

"Give me a book that's entertaining while I'm lying in the hay
To wile away the hours on a simmery summery day
Want to be lazy like a daisy in the middle of July
And watch the pretty pictures in the sky
Ho Hum, dreamin' in the sun
I'm the lucky on. It's true..."

It's Song Number Three listed on the page, "The Big Band Era: The
Romance of Summer"
http://members.aol.com/bigbandpage/era0407.html

The song was apparently recorded by several different big bands around
1940. There were versions by Tony Pastor, Horace Heidt, Tommy Reynolds
and others. See the results of this Google search:

Here's a 78 of the Horace Heidt recording from a dealer on MusicStack.com:

--------
search strategy:
google groups: "hours on a simmery"
googe: "simmery summery day"

I hope this helps.

Wayne King and his Orchestra recorded a song called "Lazy Lack-a-Daisy
Melody." I wonder whether this might be your song.
