I am looking for a report which shows the relative competitiveness of
nursing schools in the united states. The more schools it covers, the
better. The ideal information will show how many applicants each
school had vs. how many acceptances they granted.

Great answers get great tips!

Hi Jmhines123!

I found three sources of information that might interest you:

Every year the American Association of Colleges of Nursing reports the
most current statistics on student enrollment and graduations.

The following 80 page report is available for $35.00
2003 - 2004 ENROLLMENT AND GRADUATIONS IN
BACCALAUREATE AND GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN NURSING

Here is the table of contents: http://www.aacn.nche.edu/IDS/EnrlTOC.htm

----------------------

I can provide you with a list of the NIH rankings for Schools of
Nursing. This is a list of 98 U.S. nursing schools. (free) The
National Institutes of Health rankings are based solely upon the total
amount of research grant money allocated to individual nursing
schools.

Note: NIH rankings are valued by research institutions, who believe
they signify the high quality of school researchers, whose initiatives
must be approved by a peer-review panel of experts.

------------------

I can also provide you with a link to the U.S. News & World Report on
America's Best Graduate Schools 2005 which includes nursing schools.
The price is $14.95.

You get:
- the complete data for exclusive rankings of more than 1,000 graduate
school programs.
- extended rankings tables of "Top Schools"?for business, education,
engineering, and medicine.
- interactive sorting capability?based on YOUR criteria?for business,
education, engineering, law, and medicine.
- enhanced directory pages for each school, featuring admissions
statistics, financial aid information, and student body
demographics?for business, education, engineering, law, and medicine.
- detailed faculty profiles for programs in fine arts, health, library
science, public affairs, the sciences, and social sciences &
humanities.

Would the above information meet your needs?

Thanks,
Bobbie7

US News & World Report

?US News & World Report ranks master?s programs and specialties in
nursing schools that have received NLNAC accreditation. Health
sciences programs, which include nursing, are reassessed every third
year. ?

?US News uses a peer-review process that surveys two or three deans,
administrators and/or faculty members at each institution; these
respondents evaluate schools on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5
(outstanding) based upon predetermined criteria that indicate a
school?s overall quality.?

?The standards concentrate on two areas: ?input? and ?output?
measures. Input measures gauge the quality of an institution?s
academic programs: factors can include academic preparation and
student-to-faculty ratios. Output measures assess how well the
graduate school prepares students for their professions: factors can
incorporate postgraduate employment rates and starting salaries.
Respondents can select a ?don?t know? option if they lack complete
knowledge about schools on the survey.?
