Question ID: 382016
I am looking to verify that a Psychiatrist is certified-- is there a
data base? How would I know if the number on a certificate is real-
and not from Kinkos? Are the numbers formated in a special way? Do
they every go out of date?

There are a number of services that can provide background information
on a doctor (including psychiatrists) including: Board certification,
Disciplinary actions, Education and training, and so on.

Some of these are available at no charge, but may not provide
comprehensive information. Others charge a modest fee (under $10.00)
for fairly detailed information.

Would these be of interest to you? If so, let me know what state the
psychiatrist practices in.

Those site would be fine as long as I can search for a cerrificate
number, that I can cross back with education and the like-- I really
think he has stolen (or matched several sets of information) and he is
not "real"
The man is working in GA
Thanks so much for working on this

I'm not sure exactly what "number" you have in mind. You can
certainly search by the doctor's license number, but I"m not sure if
that's what you mean.

Why not post the number here, along with the type of certificate it
came from, and I can let you know what (if anything) turns up.

Also, you can post the doctor's name, as well, if you don't mind
having it here in a public forum.

Otherwise, the best I can do is steer you to the various resources
that are available so that you can search yourself.

as long as certificate (license) numbers are cross referenced with the
education then that is great
don't want to trash him on the net till I can prove he is a fake
Many thanks for all your time

Hello again.

Sounds like you'll be able to make use of the online licensing search
that the state of Georgia makes available.

First, head to:

http://www.medicalboard.state.ga.us/bdsearch/index.html

where you'll find the license database search for the Composite State
Board of Medical Examiners for Georgia.

Enter the information on your doctor -- either by name or by license
number (or by city, if preferred).

If the psychiatrist holds a legitimate license in the state of
Georgia, then the search should take you to a page for a:

PHYSICIAN PROFILE

which contains detailed information about the doctor, including:

Practice Location History
Medical Education and Training
Specialty Board Certifications
Hospital Staff Privileges
Disciplinary Action
Criminal Offenses
Medical Malpractice Judgment Arbitration Awards
Medical Malpractice Settlement Amounts

and may also include information on:

List of physician's articles, journals, or publications
List of professional organizations
List of awards
List of Appointments to Medical School Faculties

Hope this is the information you were looking for.

Before rating this answer, please let me know if anything here is
unclear, or if you need additional information. Just post a Request
for Clarification, and I'll be happy to help you further.

All the best...let me know how it works out.

You can frequently find some free information on your state's Board of
Medical Examiners website. Most states' websites are searchable by the
physician's name.
