Hi, the song "Herkimer The Homely Doll" was written (but not sung) by Ted Rosen, he can be reached at: New World Publishing, 129 Pleasant St., Weymouth MA 02190; 781-331-8848 (info from great article at: http://www.aspma.com/labels/halmark.htm) I found a reference that sais Sterling Holloway played Hercameyer the Lonely Doll on Captain Kangaroo, and that he recorded a version of the song. This guy http://www.kiddierekordking.com/selling Kiddie78s@aol.com is probaby your best bet for getting a copy, I recommend you contact him! |

just came across this after a random google search on this very topic. Sterling Holloway, who was the voice narrating and singing the song "Herkimer the Lonely Doll" was also the voice of Winnie the Pooh in the early Disney releases (1966-1982). If I remember right, the song's lyrics were acted out by a puppet in silhouette, something about how he is neglected and unchosen by the children, but saves the (store?) from a fire in the end. Interesting and haunting story. |
