Question ID: 394190
Approximately June 2003 a woman by the name of Nicole Waibel, a
resident of Reynoldsburg Ohio shot and killed a man she claimed
attacked her after she gave him a ride home from a bar. She dumped
his body on Doty Road in Pickerington Ohio. The next day her friends
who were with her contacted the police and turned her in. I would
like to know the end result of the case. The original story was
reported in the Columbus Dispatch newspaper, but I am unable to locate
any stories about the outcome. Pickerington is in Fairfield County
Ohio, and Reynoldsburg is either in Franklin County or Licking County.

I located a cached article describing the Nicole K. Waibel case that
you mentioned.

Excerpt:

?Whitehall police took Nicole K. Waibel of Windsor Drive into custody
Monday. She was charged with one count of murder, two counts of
tampering with evidence and one count of carrying a concealed weapon,
according to the clerk of courts office.?

(...)

The man had been identified as 20-year-old Whitehall resident Lalisa
Kabeta Gemechu of South Hamilton Road, police said.

(...)

?Waibel will face a preliminary hearing in Franklin County Municipal
Court at 9:30 a.m. June 12. She is being held without bond in the
Franklin County Jail, according to the Municipal Clerk of Courts
office.?

I then searched through the public records at the Franklin County Municipal Court.

Hi Bobbie!

Thanks for the prompt answer, but I need a little more. The
information you have provided is from the Franklin County Municipal
Court. What that tells me is that the case was "bound over" to the
Common Pleas Court. Here, in Ohio, all cases start out in Municipal
Court. The Municipal Court is really for lesser crimes, and Civil
actions under $15,000. So, if a defendant is charged with murder, the
case will start in municipal court. There, the defendant either pleas
to a lesser charge, gets a preliminary hearing, or the case can be
taken directly to a grand jury by the prosecutor. Since the muny
court records say direct indictment, this tells me the case was taken
to a grand jury and then went to common please court. So your next
research stop is the Franklin County Common Pleas Court. Why - you
ask am I willing to pay someone else to find it? Well the Franklin
county clerk web site is frustrating, and I cannot seem to get it to
work with my computer (why would be another question for google). I
cannot access any county records, and I am not even certin that the
criminal records are online.

Thanks for your efforts.

Dear Nkamom,

I went to the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Website and it
appears that the criminal records are not available online.

the best of me, I will post again.
