Anecdotally, my daughter had the same problem. We used my home carpet
steamer, with upholstery attachements to steam clean the upholstery.
(We added some Febreeze to the liquid in the steamer). We did the
floor carpeting and bought new mats. Then we sprayed Febreeze
throughout. This did a pretty good job, but I could still smell it,
while my daughter could not. I did not try any of the products listed
above though.
Don?t forget to clean the rear-view mirror and all windows, as there
is probably a film on them that contributes to the odor. Clean out the
ashtrays and all plastic parts too(Try some Febreeze on a damp rag to
clean these). Don?t forget the sun visors and the trunk! The trunk has
probably absorbed odors that can be emitted into the car through the
back seats. You may want to steam clean the carpeting in the trunk, or
at least use one of the products above.
After you try the above tips, you might want additionally, to try a car ionizer!
