I'm looking for an online database or service that is either free or very cheap (under $10) that would allow me to search DBA (doing business as) names in my county (Galveston County, TX) and/or state (Texas.) Essentially I want to start my own business and want to see if certain names are taken at both the county and state level. |

jarhine-ga, Thanks for your question. SOSDirect is an online service offered by the Texas Secretary of State that allows for a wide variety of business-name searches for a relatively modest fee (a search can cost as little as $1.00). You can access SOSDirect at: https://direct.sos.state.tx.us You can then click on the the "temporary login form" at near the bottom of the page in order to access the system...you will have to register at the site and provide credit card information. You can then conduct a "Business Entity" search for any name of interest, or -- if you prefer -- you can search for [ DBA ], which will return a list of many hundred "doing business as" names throughout the state. I believe this search service should fully meet your needs. But before rating this answer, please let me know if you have any questions about the information I've provided here. Just post a Request for Clarification, and I'll be happy to assist you further. Thanks...and good luck with your business venture. pafalafa-ga search strategy: Used bookmarked site for SOSDirect |
