We're getting there ...

How about ...

egoplasmaniac?

YES! It is:

egoplasmaniac

Will Editors of Dictionaries, etc. kindly note that this word was
invented by me, with an assist from silver777.

Hi Probo,

I enjoy and very much relate to your humour. Yes, I believe you have
reduced the term in question to the lowest possible denominator to
that which such recognition is deserved. (I trust too that you will
excuse my English spelling .. as in "humour") !!!!

Concur .. concur with Probo .. egoplasmaniac and perhaps egoplasmatist
as a sub-noun.

Ally .. a broken down extrapolation .. ego: as in self; plasma: as in
blood; maniac: as in WHY ??? .. also .. mono: as in singular; Aphra:
as in love.

Kind regards, as an understudy to Probo .. let's move on, shall we ?

Silver.

Wow, Silver

Congratulations on becoming my very first understudy!

Please don't let your English spellings trouble you because ...

I'm English and I live Hove in Beautiful Sussex.

Interesting commentary, but I suspect you are looking for a term
already in existence, not one made up. I have some limited background
in psych, as well as a lot of knowledge of medical terminology, but
this is a rather specialized term that I have not been able to find
much on. However, based on my knowledge of medical terminology, let's
see what we can come up with. First, fears are known as -phobias and
loves or unusual desires are -philias. The term for fear of blood is
hemophobia (or haemophobia or hematophobia as alternates). The
converse should therefore be hemophilia, however this has a much more
widely known meaning, as a genetic disorder which causes uncontrolled
bleeding. Hematophilia might be used to distinguish this from
hemophilia, but it is rarely used, and usually as a synonym for
hemophilia, but we might steal it for use in psychology to
differentiate from the physical disorder.

In terms of phobias, the prefix auto- is used to denote self. Thus,
autohematophilia might describe this. However I have been unable to
find a reference to that word.

One other thought, the suffix -mania is sometimes used similarly to
-philia, however it may connote an unusual sexual desire (as can
-philia, but perhaps less so). However, there are those who cut
themselves to gain relief from stress or tensions and feel great
relief at the sight of their own blood without it being a sexual
thing. I assume it is these you are referring to. I was able to find
references to hematomania or haematomania, but usually in connection
with vampires.

All in all, autohematophilia (or autohaematophilia, if you prefer a
more British spelling) seems to make the most sense to me, but as I
said, I have not come across the term in my searches.

Incest?

Hi Bryan with a "Y" and Ac67,

My pleasure to have crossed your paths as a self-professed understudy
to Probo's witty humour and intellect. What learning we have in our
collective laps of e-studies in these intricacies such as the love of
the sight of one's own blood. Good God.

Perhaps our collective thoughts could be focused further on how we
might help one another to better our world against blood-shed et al.

Probo .. you must admit .. AC's logic is right on. I reckon we should
bow out now. "Autohaematophilia" sounds like the perfect word to
me.(Note the Queen's English).

Hey Guzzi .. where the hell did you get "incest" from? Please
extrapolate your thoughts.

Probo .. I made the incorrect assumtion of 99% American response here.
I'm Aussie, but I'm a stickler for spelling .. unless of course I'm
the mispeller.

:)

Hi, Phil ...

Phil Silver, huh? Are you the man I am thinking of?

I've been to the Land of Oz on several occasions to Sydney, Perth,
Port Headland and Newcastle. (Is there anywhere else worth a visit?)

Yes, agreed, ac67 has coined an expression that will appeal to
academics and medical practitioners but will it work for the
Man-in-the-Street?

Knowing the Sydneyites, etc. as I do ... I know which word that they will go for.

I am now trying to find out how the England v Australia ODI cricket
match ended yesterday. Can you help?

All the Best

Hy Bryan,

Orstraya .. 9 fa 259 .. Pommies 4 fa 260 off 46.3 overs. I guess you
found that out by now though. About time you blokes had a win !!!! The
result would have been quite different of course, had Ponting not
fractured a thumb. :) Although a bloody good cricketer, I'm unsure
if he would be an egoplasmaniac. (Just to stay on topic here).

Of course there are many other places worthy of visit in the best
county in the world! I will visit the other topic on this matter.

No Bryan, I'm not the dead comedian Silvers. My handle refers to my
distinguished slight greying of hair.

Wow, Phil

Very many thanks ...

My Image Consultant advised me to have a few grey streaks in my hair
to make me look more distinguished. It worked!

Coincidentally, there's a programme on UK TV (Channel 4) tonight (no
use to those in other countries I fear) which tells the story of a
mentally disturbed mum who cuts an arm from time to time because she
has a compulsion to see her blood.

I don't plan to watch it.

Sorry to be obscure, silver777. 'Ones blood' is ones relatives. Maybe
not everywhere. The reply was as I genuinely read the question (at
3am). Must get out more :-)

Hi Ally and Guzzi,

Are we having fun yet?

Guzzi, I see what you mean. Maybe you are right and we are on the wrong track.

If so, I proffer egorelomaniac, autoheretic and monoancesturite.

But if it's still actual blood .. we might also consider congealist or
monovampirist.

Yeah OK, enough .. I know.

See ya, Phil
