Hello again, zainabbaby-ga.

Thanks for posting another "directories" question.

Oddly enough, this question about Europe turned out to be a bit more
challenging than I anticipated. Most of the online directories seem
to focus on individual countries, or individual sectors of the
business world. There are still relatively few that offer broad
listings of businesses throughout Europe.

Fortunately, though, the ones that exist seem to be fairly
comprehensive and flexible tools. I have listed these below.

Before rating this answer, please let me know if you need any
additional information (such as inidividual country directories).
Just post a Request for Clarification and I'll be happy to assist you
further.

All the best,

No sense saving the best for last, so here it is. Europages has the
other online directories beat hands-down:

http://www.europages.net

The directory is available in a variety of paper and electronic
formats, which are described here:

-----
http://www.europages.net/en/about-directory.html

Printed Directory
In 6 languages
A selection of Europe's most dynamic suppliers.
Sent to 450000 qualified buyers in 38 countries.

CD-ROM Directory
In 14 languages
Europe's 150,000 most dynamic companies.
Distributed to 580.000 qualified European buyers (through the post +
specialised press).

Internet Directory
In 25 languages
Europe's 550,000 most dynamic companies.
16,000,000 visits annually. Listed in the main search engines on the
Internet (460,000 links).
-----

As you can see, the internet version of the directory contains more
than half a million listings. The directory is accessible and
searchable online.
The English-language search page is here:

http://www.europages.net/en/

Click on the Directory Tab to get started...you can search by types of
products and services, business categories, or company names.

For instance, a product search on "electronics" identifies 19,177
companies. You can access the entire list, or select from some of the
categories offered (e.g. Electronics -- Import-Export) to pare it
down.

Clicking on: "Display all the results now" will bring you to the
beginning of the listings, where you'll find fairly comprehensive
information on each company.

For instance, the listing for BTI is as follows:

-----
BTI
Specialised in electronic displays:
Q-Lite Led displays for indoor and
outdoor applications,clocks,score-
boards,graphic displays,full colour
led video walls, traffic signs,
industrial displays,...

13, Wiekenweg 2387 Baarle-Hertog
BELGIUM
Tel: +32 14 69 96 77
Fax: +32 14 69 96 96

Workforce: 1-10

[There are also links at the listing to the company's website, email
address, and a map of the company's location]
-----

There is also an option on the page to click on a given country name
to see all the "Electronics" listing in that country. For instance,
clicking on "France" leads to a list of 2,601 companies, such as:

-----
MB2I

IT engineering Partners: Intel, Xerox, Microsoft, Citrix Sale rental
of IT equipment/ software Electronic document management Electronic
content management Collaborative portals

17, chemin Boulangers
78530 Buc - FRANCE
Tel: +33 139 56 64 02
-----

This is a diverse, flexible and fairly comprehensive information
source. I would suggest this as a site worth exploring for a while in
order to become more familiar with its capabilities.

Other useful sources are listed below.

==========

A directory of businesses in Central and Eastern Europe has been compiled here:

http://www.ceebd.co.uk/ceebd/industdi.htm

Select an industry category of interest for more detailed information.
For instance, clicking on "wholesale trade" leads to a list that
begins like this:

-----
Wholesale and Retail Trade

VINEX SLAVYANTSI
Production and sales of quality wines and spirits

DIAMOND JSC
Production of clear sheet glass, water soluble glass, figured and
wired glass, fine household percelain

SOVCOMFLOT
shipowners, sale and purchase brokers for ships and equipment

FINESMOBIL
Trade with telecommunication products and services ? mobile phones and
accessories

IZIDA
Production and sales of ceramic tiles, household porcelain, souvenir
porcelain and sanitary ware.

BENDERY TRADE AND INDUSTRY HOUSE
retail and wholesale of commodities and industrial goods in Moldova
-----

and clicking on an individual company name pulls up a very detailed
information sheet on that company:

-----
Vinex Slavyantsi

Address Vinex Slavyantsi, 8460 Slavyantsi
Burgas Region, Bulgaria
Tel. No. +359 5571 2500

England 13%
Russia 8%
Japan 7%
Other 5%

I also want to make you aware of the BizEurope site at:

http://www.bizeurope.com/

which bills itself as "Europe's leading import and export directory"

While this may be the case, I was not terribly impressed with the
number of business listings I found in the freely available parts of
the BizEurope website. Perhaps there are additional resources
available to paid members, but the only way to know this for sure
would be to subscribe to the services at the site.

A site related to bizeurope may have a bit more to offer, at least in
the manufacturing sector:

http://www.eumanufacturer.com/

Clicking on an industry sector brings up some pretty detailed
listings. For instance, clicking on: "Bearings" leads to:

http://www.eumanufacturer.com/bearings.html

with a pretty good listing of bearing manufacturers in Europe, and
pretty detailed listings that look like this:

-----
Bronze Mecanique - Specialists in the manufacture and white metal
lining of bearings, collars, runners, bushing, and connecting rods.
Specialists since 1919 in the manufacture and white metal lining of
bearings, collars, runners, bushing, connecting rods, etc.

and cast iron according to client drawings, but we can also repair
bearings by copying sample items.

> Ultrasound and sweating (Cofrend II)

Organisation compliant with ISO 9002 standards
Approved by turbine, step-down and step-up gear train, and pump
manufacturers.

And of course, there's always the phone book!

Links to phone books throughout Europe -- including many online
business Yellow Pages -- can be found at several sites, such as:

http://www.wayp.com/eng/europa3.shtml

and

http://www.infospace.com/_1_300313__info.b2bbiz/intl/europe.html

These are country-specific, rather than European wide, but should
certainly not be overlooked as sources of business listings.

==========

As I mentioned earlier, the bulk of the directories available focus on
individual countries or individual industry sectors. If you would
like more information on these -- or any other information -- just let
me know.

Thanks.
