Question ID: 417700
Last Friday I met a couple of Canadians (who were visiting London) and
I told them about the GA Research facilities and I boasted that I
could find out EVERYTHING about ANYTHING ...

Try me, I said (rather foolishly).

OK, said they ...

Tell us what building can be viewed when one is looking north from the
second floor of 5637 Finch Ave E in Toronto?

My heart sank ...

Please Pinky, come to my rescue QUICK!

Clarification of Question by probonopublico-ga on 20 Oct 2004 21:36 PDT
Well, very many thanks to one and all ...

I shall call my two new Canuck friends later and see if they are
suitably impressed.

As soon as I have their answer, I will let you know.

Bryan

I think you'll do better with one of the Canadian GARs, Bryan.
Although my hubby is Canadian, it hasn't rubbed off on me, and I
haven't a clue how to find an answer to this question. Mapquest didn't
help. Someone who has actually been to Toronto might find it easy.

Hi, Pink

Very many thanks for looking ...

It is VERY obscure and I suspect that I am now going to get egg all over my face.

I don't suppose that I could persuade you to take a quick trip?

All the Best

Bryan...

Well, we can always count on you for the interesting question. From
looking (since I am a bit far from Toronto) there is a cluster of
three buildings due north from that address, on the corner of Tapscott
and Finch. They are probably at the Centenial College Tapscott campus
(http://www.centennialcollege.ca/access/tapscott.htm) How about you
print them a picture. Visit
http://app.toronto.ca/lit/imapit/iMapIt.jsp?app=TOMaps and enter
Tapscott and Finch as the intersection and check "Aerial View" and
print them a picture. :)

How about they would see 720 Tapscott Rd, which appears to be an office complex?

Hi Probonopublico...

Its at times like this that I wish GA would allow me to hit the *ANSWER*
button:(

Sorry tar_heel_v-ga, you were very, very close indeed, but the
Tapscott Resource Centre is just a tad southwest of the building (
about 500 yards ) !!!

Looking directly north from the second floor of 5637 Finch Ave E:

One would see a one story building called Tapp's Restaurant. It has
two summer patios, one in front and another in the back, plenty of
free parking and great, affordable food!!! Here is a link to the
restaurant and a map:

http://canada411.yellowpages.ca/searchCustomer.do?provinceId=ON&type=MAP&what=tapp%27s+restaurant&showMsgBox=1&listingId=42337032&sType=productSearch&step=more&pcid=0&pst=simpleSearch&srchtype=business&city=toronto

I hope this answers your question, Bryan.
If you need any further information or if I can clarify anything for
you, please post a comment and add my name to the heading :)

Well gee, if everyone is getting in on this one, here's my two bits.
If you look at the following profile of Tapp's Restaurant on
Toronto.com:

http://www.toronto.com/profile/144239/

you'll see a picture of the building. If you then use tar_heel_v-ga's
excellent suggestion of viewing the aerial photo of the location on
the city website (http://app.toronto.ca/lit/imapit/iMapIt.jsp?app=TOMaps
), you should be able to recognize the skylights on the roof of the
building.

The picture on Toronto.com appears to be taken from the Tapscott Rd
side, looking west/southwest.

OK Bryan, take THAT to the bank or pub! I do hope that you had a
friendly wager going on this...?

Regards,

aht-ga

Hello
I live in a suburb just outside of downtown Toronto and am quite
familiar with the city, however, off hand I have no idea of what the
building in question could be. The address you mention is actually a
little east of Tapscott Rd. It actually appears to cross Baldoon Rd.
It appears that something known as Finchdene Square is directly north
of this address. By the name it could possibly be a shopping plaza or
complex of some kind. The sure way to find the answer would be to
take a short subway ride downtown and have look. :)

Best regards,
C

I've found this description of the area.

"Gunplay in a Scarborough parking lot yesterday afternoon has left two men
clinging to life with multiple gunshot wounds. The gunfire erupted at 5:30 p.m.
on the south side of the Tapscott Business Centre at 5637 Finch Ave. -- just
south of Finch, on the west side of Tapscott Rd. -- with several of the shots
striking and critically injuring the two victims.

The area is largely industrial but on the edge of a residential neighbourhood.

Wow, Answerfinder ...

Yet another shooting in the Scarborough Parking Lot YESTERDAY and
another two men dead!

This is weird because there was a very similar incident on Sept 2,
2003, as I recall.

Same place; same death toll.

Sounds like a Serial Killer would you say?

Incidentally, I am now writing the script for a new Serial Killer movie ...

This has a really clever twist: it turns out to be the guy that
everybody thought it was.

This should keep everyone guessing.

What do you think?

probonopublico,
does he drink Moosehead Lager?
http://www.moosehead.ca/

A moose was seen skulking away northwards,
immediately to the west of 5620 Finch Ave. East, a brown-roofed
building adjacent to "Taps".

Ladies & Gentlemen

We have a WINNER!

But before announcing the result, our learned Assessor is going out to
buy some grapes ,,,

But, entre nous, he is really going to see if he can get a fix on the
Serial Killer.

Shhhhhhhhh!

My Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen

The judges have deliberated and it gives me great pleasure to announce
their decision, in reverse order:

3: No it is not Easterangel-ga, even though the bookies had listed him
as the favourite at 2 to 1.

2: No, it is not Scriptor-ga, who evidently is still trying to find
some German swear words.

But our winner is:

1: The Lovely Steph53-GA who, although a mere Commoner, has beaten off
some 500 Researchers!

Congratulations, Steph53-ga but sadly, as you are aware, you are
unable to post an Official Answer because of your lowly status.

So, who said that Life was Fair?

However, the Rules require that we should have a winner so ... whoever
hits the Answer Button first (it's the one below Request for
Clarification) can step up and claim the Stellars that are waiting for
collection.

My thanks to you all.

Bryan

Also an honourable mention to Answerfinder-ga for digging up the
evidence on the Serial Killer.

Now go and find him!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, thank you, Bryan :):):)!!!!!

And about the shooting that took place, it was in the parking lot of
the building where 5637 Finch Ave E is. There is a lot of crime in
this area by youth gangs, so if one wants to walk across the street to
have lunch at Tapp's, one has to be very careful.

Steph53

I?ve just commissioned an offender profile and the results show that
the cereal killer only strikes in the early morning, just after the
victim starts their breakfast. I?ll keep you posted on the
investigation.
