what hard ware would I need to set up a wireless network to span 5 km
and to connect 4 building?

First of all, what you are planning on doing is illegal without having
your antennas FCC Approved, and an FCC License for that frequency
band.

As for hardware, I'm not positive exactly what you would need, but
you're not going to find it at walmart :P
