My first question was perhaps too specific. Now I'd like to ask when
the home was established and how long it operated.

I found a reference to "the Home of the Good Shepard, our institution
for girls..." in an article from a Deming, NM newspaper dated 1957. A
certain General Caffey from Mesilla Park was involved in fund raising
for the Home at the time.

But I didn't see anything regarding a founding date. Do you have any
idea of a general time period in which to search further...?

I believe it was established in 1928 when the (catholic) nuns came
from Mexico after their property was confiscated during the Mexican
Revolution. (From the New Mexico Historical review Vol. VIII, No.1).
I was an "inmate" there in 1955-56 so it was open then. When I
visited there in 1983 it had been turned into a condominium and the
nuns long gone. Hope this helps.
