Hello chico1945-ga, According to Allmusic.com, the correct spelling of her name is Margie Hendrix, however I?ve seen her name spelled at least three different ways on the web. A search for Margie Hendrix at the Social Security Death Index comes up with someone by that name that was born March 13, 1939 and died July 1973. The social security number was issued in New York. According to Allmusic.com, the Cookies were formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1953. She would have been pretty young at the time, about 14, but I guess it?s possible. Social Security Death Index (search for Margie Hendrix) http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi Born 13 Mar 1939, died Jul 1973, Issued New York Allmusic.com The Cookies http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:45j20r5ac48x~T1 ?The original Cookies were Margie Hendrix, Ethel "Earl-Jean" McCrea, and Pat Lyles , who started singing together in Brooklyn in the early '50s, made their recording debut on the Lamp imprint of Aladdin Records in 1954, and were signed to Atlantic Records in 1955 by producer/songwriter Jesse Stone.? However, according to ThisOldSoul.com, ?Margie Hendricks? didn?t join the Cookies until 1956. This would make her approximately 17 at the time, if the death index record is indeed her. ThisOldSoul.com Cookies http://www.thisoldsoul.com/stars/cookies.html ?1956-59.......Margie Hendricks replaced Beulah Robertson(Margie had seven 45's issued in her own name on Lamp,Tangerine,Mercury and sound stage 7)? According to the credits for the new "Ray" movie, it is spelled Margie Hendricks. The search engine the last poster provided, http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi shows someone by that name who lived from 1935-1979, which could be her. |

I found this: "Regina King plays Margie Hendricks, one of Charles' backup vocals, the Raelettes, in the late 1950s. As a Raelette, Hendricks soon learned how to behave under Charles' terms, or to 'let Ray,' and it eventually led her to her own demise of a drug overdose in 1964." http://www.thepioneer.com/Nov13_Ray.htm |
