Dear Scriptor, I'm curious about something. I presume that the abbreviation "DVD" is used in Germany. In English, it is my understanding that DVD stands for Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc. My question is this: does the abbreviation DVD stand for anything in particular in the German language? Best regards, Pinkie |

Dear Pinkfreud, As far as I know, the abbreviation "DVD" has no particular meaning in German - apart from the data storage medium, of course. However, the three letters are quite often interpreted as "Digital Video Disc", which makes more sense for Germans because 'Video' is a familiar term in German, while 'Versatile' isn't. By the way, the pronounciation of DVD might sound a bit strange for people speaking English: deh-fow-deh. Very best regards, dear Pinkie, Scriptor |

Excellent! Thank you very much. I shall think of this as I enjoy the new deh-fow-deh player that I'm hoping to receive for Christmas! :-) |
