rlongo-ga; Most likely with turpentine, which is a nasty solvent. Tar can only be removed efficiently with an organic solvent. Today we could use naphtha, a much more friendly solvent. Unfortunately, it was not available in those days. One could painfully pick off the tar and use soap and water, which is inefficient. All in all, very difficult, which was the idea. monroe22 |

If the tar was very hot, they had no need to clean themselves because the probably quickly died of an infection. On the other hand, if they were not burned, the tar would come off as the layers of skin flaked off. |
