I'm seeking a synopsis of important software cases decided in 2004
that have holdings relevant for the DMCA (digital millennium copyright
act), copyright, the internet, and/or free speech.

Please include a very brief (one paragraph or so case summary), a
sentence or two on the software cases' holding and legal precedent
established, and provide a case citation so that the case can be
retrieved.

NOTE: There shouldn't be too many significant cases in this area that
occurred in 2004. That is, I'm really looking for the 2-4 most
important cases in 2004 for each of the categories I stated <DMCA,
free speech, copyright, internet, filesharing).
