My son came home from school today, very upset about a "song" that several of the students were singing after a pep assembly. I want to find out if it's a real song or something that the kids made up so I can be armed with accurate info when I call the school about it. My apologies for the subject matter, but here are the words to the "song" that my son can recall: "smoking marijuana in a Pepsi can, walking down the street with the Ku Klux Klan, beating all the n*ggers with a baseball bat..." I am just sick about this and hoping someone out there will know something helpful. |

honestly, i don't think so. However, it just doesn't seem like something that a group of children would make up on their own, so I see your reasoning. |

Are you the same person that asked for the 1" hex tile patterns? If so go to the Tile Heritage Foundation site and look through their books for sale. I found that Mueller Mosaic: "Mueller Tile:Faience Tiles" looked good as I'm looking for interesting patterns myself. There are many other great books available that you can purchase, just go through them. Michelle |

Speechie, It doesn't look like anyone here can say anything about the song. If nothing has occurred to change the situation - and if you haven't already - I don't think you should delay talking to the school. I recall your comment on the question about adoption. You sound like great people. Regards, Myoarin |

It does not appear that these are lyrics from any mainstream artist. I did find a couple of songs that two of the song's statements could have originated from. The first lyric "smoking marijuana from a Pepsi can" is also in a song by a Chicago band called Dry. It is from the CD "What's Yours?" and is from the song with the same title. You can see the lyrics at www.dryband.com/index.html. I could not find anything on the lyric "walking down the street with the Ku Klux Klan" other than a slight reference from Afroman's song Colt 45. As far as the "beating all the ..." there is a close similarity from David Bowie's "Under the God" song. The lyric is as follows: "Beating on Blacks with a baseball bat." In the song it was not meant to BE racist but rather to bring up the topic of racism. I don't know if someone used these songs to put the lyrics together or not, but I thought I would give you the information that I found anyway. Hope this helps, Adam |

In answer to the coments/questions left by others, yes I'm the same person who asked about hex tiles and commented on adoption. :o) I'm happy to report that we found 1" unglazed tiles through DalTile, and they are even putting them on mesh sheets in the pattern we want (white, black and dark tan in a floral design). Unfortunately, I got a call this morning that they have been delayed and won't be here for another six weeks. :o( Oh well. They were MUCH cheaper than anyone else I found, so we'll have to live with it! I did send a letter to the prinicipal about my concerns and had a subsequent lengthy conversation with him about how to address this problem. There are other issues that they are working on, such as the use of the word "gay" in derrogatory ways (as well as others). Together, we worked out a plan to address racism with the students that involves a specialist who works with the school districts in our area. She will be speaking to the individual classrooms and trying to get the kids involved in a discussion. I also suggested some reading for the teachers. As long as he follows through (which I will be checking up on), I'll be satisfied with the way it's being handled. Thanks to Adam for the help with the lyrics. I'm still baffled about where the kids are getting this stuff, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. |

HI Speechie, Thanks for coming back. I am very glad that the school has responded so well and hope it has a salutory influence. Regards, Myoarin |
