Hello Rg76,
Below you will find all the information that I uncovered
regarding the development of the " Caesars Palace? Las Vegas.
?Opened in 1966 at a cost of $25 million, Caesars captured national
attention as an opulent Roman-Grecian fantasy land. Nearly 40 years
later, the 85-acre complex now features more than 2,400 guest rooms in
four towers, more than 100 retailers, four heated outdoor pools, a
23,000 square foot spa, nearly 20 restaurants and cafes, world class
entertainment, almost 150,000 square feet of casino space, and 160,000
square feet of meeting space.?

?Caesars Palace is located on approximately 80 acres at the northwest
corner of Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard on the Las Vegas
Strip. Caesars Palace features 2,408 guest rooms and suites,
approximately 166,000 square feet of gaming space and ten restaurants.
In addition, the property also offers a 4.5 acre swimming pool
complex, a 23,000 square foot spa/fitness facility, a wedding chapel,
110,000 square feet of meeting and convention space, and a 49,000
square foot event/exhibit pavilion. The 4,100-seat Colosseum at
Caesars Palace opened in March.?

?Caesars Palace was the first themed hotel and casino in Las Vegas.
Located at the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, Caesars was constructed
in 1966.?
?A 4.5-acre Garden of the Gods outdoor area with three swimming pools
was completed in 1998.?
?In April 2003, the property embarked on its most ambitious project to
date - the Colosseum, a $95 million contemporary replica of its
ancient namesake in Rome.?
?The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace recently completed its $139 million
expansion in time for the 2004 holiday season. The venue, which
attracted nearly 18 million visitors in 2002, added 175,000 square
feet to its existing 500,000 square feet. This expansion marks the
third addition for the 12-year-old shopping venue.?

- cost of $25 millions
General Contractor: Taylor International Corp
Architect: Melvin Grossman
?Jay Sarno opened the 14-story, $25 million Caesars Palace on 34 acres
along Las Vegas Boulevard. The 700-room resort was financed using a
$10.6 million loan from Teamsters Central States Pension Fund.?
Sarno had hired Miami architect Melvin Grossman to design Caesars,
using a 135-ft. setback from the Strip, allowing for a frontage
parking lot with a long axis of fountains marking an entry drive.
Taylor International Corp., of Las Vegas, who also built the Riviera
and Tropicana, was the general contractor. Caesars had a vast, low
casino set under an oval-shaped windowless dome.

Architects
?Caesars Palace has had a new architect for every new owner, it seems.
In 1966, Jay Sarno hired Melvin Grossman to deliver a convex tower and
a mix of statuary ranging from late Greek to Renaissance, ostensibly
to approximate ancient Rome; in the 1990s, ITT International entrusted
Marnell Corrao Associates with the Forum Shops, a cinematic
approximation of the empire complete with indoor sunrises and sunsets,
and had David Rockwell design a new tower to dwarf Grossman's original
structures.
Current owners Park Place Entertainment haven't exactly scored any
brownie points with me lately--I think stripping the metal latticework
and cool blue lighting from the façade was a mistake. Scott Walls of
Bergman, Walls & Youngblood is handling the update.
(. . .)
?Grossman practically built it into the foundations?

CAESARS PALACE HOTEL EXPANSION
FBA Engineering
?FBA performed the investigation and retrofit of two 15-story concrete
shear wall structures to accommodate a two-story vertical luxury suite
expansion. Seismic analysis required a separate study of the dynamic
interaction between the relatively flexible steel frame addition and
stiff existing structure to determine appropriate stiffness to
mitigate the "whiplash" effect. This special study allowed economy in
both steel frame addition and the retrofit of existing lower
structure.?
