I found a number of interesting sites dealing with various rope
bridges, but nothing that had step-by-step directions. So I will pass
on to you what I have found as a comment.
This article describes the construction of a rope and wooden
suspension bridge for the Kevin Costner Movie The Postman. The
article is interesting reading, but might also prove useful to you
because nets were used to construct the sides of the bridge, maybe an
alternative to knotting or weaving the sides from rope:
