I still want to know "Who", assuming the answer was, or is, unclassified.
Who classified Sibel Edmonds report by the I-G of Justice Dep?
Who *had the authority* to have classified the Sibel Edmonds report by
the Inspector General of Justice Dep?
see GA 381171 for two links of background information.
According to this CNN story, the FBI was purportedly the classifying
agency that classified the I-G report about itself (the FBI) and its
firing of Sibel Edmonds.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/09/22/attacks.fbi.translator.ap/index.html
Would the FBI have the inherent authority to classify an I-G report
about itself or would it need endorsement from Attorney-General
Ashcroft, head of the DoJ?
According to this New York Times article, a recently unclassified
summary of a separate I-G report dealing with technical and management
problems in FBI linguist services is not inconsistent--supports even--
the Sibel Edmonds allegations that preceded her firing from FBI
linguist services.
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/28/politics/28fbi.html?pagewanted=1&hp
But in the Washington Post article the same I-G is said to be,
"....negotiating with the Justice Department
to produce a public copy of that [A separate review of
translation-related allegations] report, officials said.".
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A55181-2004Sep27.html
While over at CNN, the I-G purportedly needs the FBI's go-ahead.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/09/27/fbi.translation/
"The inspector general's review is separate from an earlier [now
classified] review that investigated claims by former FBI linguist and
whistle-blower Sibel Edmonds"
"The inspector general said he is continuing to work with the FBI
to produce a declassified version of that completed 100-page report.
Edmonds sued the Justice Department last week,
seeking to force the inspector general to disclose
the results of the investigation into her firing."
2005 update:
In a pyric victory of sorts I-G Fine vindicates Sibel Edmonds' averments.
