Well, I do more shopping than I care to admit at Wal-Mart.
Without fail, someone is always announcing a "Code 4" or
a "Code Yellow" or some such.

One time we figured out the code was for an employee staff meeting at
the McDonalds located at the front of the store :)

Other than being nosy, I guess there is no reason I need to know, and
would think with WalMart being one of the largest employers in the USA
I would know someone that worked there to ask, but I do not.

Is there anyone who could post a list of the codes that WalMart uses?

Hi Sheltiebrat!

Well, I have to say, you made me curious enough to want to check this
out myself.

I can't find anything "Officially Walmart" , but I did find a
newsgroup posting by a person who was in a Walmart during a code and,
in chatting with the employees there, got the lowdown on all the other
codes. So here they are:

Now, I also understand there is some kind of "secret code" that is
used to identify shoplifters. When the cameras spot a shoplifter in
action they will use some innocuous announcement to direct a security
person there. Probably something like, "Spill in aisle 6". ;-)

This post may or may not be accurate, (it is funny in any case!). It
says a CODE ONE is for SHOPLIFTING --

Some other interesting related posts ---

Walmart's attitude to the "Code Adam" (sometimes called Code Yellow in
other stores)

"WalMart was the first to introduce this type of procedure. They call
it a "Code Adam". The minute an employee is told of a missing child,
they have this code, with a description of the child announced over
the loudspeaker. EVERY employee then IMMEDIATELY stops what they're
doing to look for the child - WalMart's attitude is that they have no
other job until the child is found and the code cancelled."

More on Code Adam

Fired over an "accidental" code blue --

"I was an unloader at a small supercenter in West Virginia and said
code blue not knowing what it meant at the time now i jobless."

So, I don't know about you, but I sure know a lot more about these
codes now! Next time you go to Wal-Mart it'll be kind of like having
the secret decoder ring won't it?!

Thanks for asking!

Search terms in Google Groups:

Walmart "code red"
Walmart "code blue" ..etc

The only one I know is Code Adam for a missing child, I can't believe
how often I hear it while I'm shopping there.

I shop at Wal Mart entirely too much, but I'm proud to admit it!
I know that's not all.. they frequently have a Code "C" which
I BELIEVE (ie, guess) stands for customer needing assistance. "Code C
in Housewares," etc. Also, unfortunately enough, I know they have a
code for children being rambunctious (which I hear when I ride the
scooters and bikes around hardware) -- anyone have a clue what that
one is?

Okay, here it is - from someone I know who used to work at a WalMart
years ago:

Code ADAM - we all know, is for a missing child
Code Blue - bomb
Code Red - Fire
Code Orange - Chemical Spill
Code Black - weather warning
Code Green - Hostage Situation
Code C - Customer Service (I was right!!) Sometimes used, when
cashiers needed
Code 10 - Dry Spill
Code 20 - Wet Spill
Code 90 - Management
Code 300 - Security
Store # - Backup needed.. (all male employees and security)

And there are employee meetings, although there is no code -- it's
just announced over the loudspeaker.

Glad to finally answer the question,
