When I installed Microsoft SP 2, I think it corrupted my Microsoft Scanner &
Camera Wizard feature because it no longer comes up after I plug in my USB
cable to my laptop. Before, when I plugged in my USB cable to my camera
and then to my laptop, the Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard screen would
come up automatically. Now, I get nothing. Is there a download that I have
to do to get back this feature or what do I do? I really miss it. Thank you.

Hi Charlotte35,

Please follow these steps and let me know if it works:

1. Make sure the camera is plugged in.

2. Click Start > Search.

3. When the Search window appears, click "All files and folders" (to
the left of the window).

4. Under "All or part of the file name" (first blank box), type the
following: scanner and camera wizard. Click Search.

5. When the Scanner and Camera Wizard appears on the left, double
click the file that appears on the right.

6. A window will open asking you to select the program to launch.
Select "Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard Download pictures from a
camera or scanner." Click OK.

7. The Scanner and Camera Wizard screen should appear.

Waiting to hear from you.

Regards,
Rainbow

Dear Rainbow-

I tried what you did, and the Scanner and Camera Wizard does not show
up in a file.

This question is for sebastin-ga. You had mentioned a file: gpedit.msc
to get into to fix my scanner and camera wizard situation, but I did a search
on that file, and it doesn't exist. Did you misspell it?

Someone had mentioned to fix the scanner and camera wizard so that I get
the screen is to go into the gpedit.msc file. The only thing when I click
Start, Run and type gpedit.msc, it can't find it. I have Microsoft XP.
I understand it is a hidden file? How do I access it in XP?

try updating the driver for the camera and scanner. Click on device
properties, --> update driver and let Windows search Online for the
best driver

Where do I go to get to it?

Thanks.

Use the Microsoft TweakUI to explicitly enable AutoPlay. This writes
a registry change that may be missing or corrupt.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

. Start, Run, gpedit.msc

The default policy for autoplay is a null entry in the registry. By
enabling the Group Policy object you force a registry write that can
help. Be sure to reboot for the changes to take effect.

In the Group Policy window, double-click Computer Configuration,
double-click Administrative templates, double-click System, and then
double-click Turn off autoplay.

In theTurn off autoplay dialog box, click Disabled, and then click OK.

This should start the Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard, whenever
you attach the device.

hi,

sp2 has caused a lot of havoc for many people. you may consider
removing sp2 if your laptop was working fine before.

try these steps, good luck;

Use the Add or Remove Programs tool,to access it,look in the lower
left of your screen;
1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Click to select the Show Updates check box (at the top of the window).
3. Click Windows XP Service Pack 2, and then click Remove.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Windows XP SP2.
5. Perform a system restore to return the system to a point before
Windows XP SP2 was installed.

5a. Click Start, click 'Help and Support', type 'system restore' in
the search window at the top of the page.
5b. Select 'Run the System Restore Wizard' at the bottom of the list of options.

6. Click Start, click Run, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK. This
will return the file system to the order that it had before you
installed Windows XP SP2.
