In a whois lookup, it is very easy to determine who owns a particular
domain name. What I am looking to find is all the domain names that a
particular company owns. In other words, www.cocacola.com is owned by
The Coca-Cola Company; is there a way to search for all the domain
names that The Coca-Cola Company owns?

To be sure, I am not interested in finding out information about
Coca-Cola. I am interested in a general solution to this question.
If a general solution is not possible, I can let you know what company
I am seeking to investigate.

Yes, it's possible. There is a search tool that specifically allows
searches on the owner's name.

However, in my experience, it has been pretty reliable, but not
perfectly reliable. For instance, I just ran an owner-search on "coca
cola" and the results returned about 500 names.

A good many of these are, indeed, owned by coca-cola. But there are
probably a bunch of false positives as well, and there may be sites
that should be -- but aren't -- on the list.

Are you interested in a good but less-than-ideal solution?

P.S. The search tool is free, by the way!

Yea, as long as the search tool is free and it works!

afreedm-ga,

OK, here we go.

Head to the OpenAccess-- Intellectual Property page of the Dialog
information service:

http://openaccess.dialog.com/ip/

On the left hand side of the page, click on the link to "Domain Names"

This will take you to a search page with several text-entry boxes,
including one labelled "Owner". Put in the appropriate text here,
e.g. [ coca cola ]

Select the options that best suit you for "Content" and "Status" (let
me know if you need any info on what these are about).

The click on search!

That's it!

Like I said, there are over 500 records returned for coca-cola. The
first one listed looks like this:

worldofcoke.info - Domain Names - US$3.65

Now, if you want to see the actual Whois record, you'll have to pay
Dialog $3.65 (but of course, there are plenty of free Whois sites you
could use).

But there was no charge to generate the list of 500 names, all of
which are purportedly registered to Coca Cola.

By the way, entry number 20 on my results list was:

stevejheyer.info - Domain Names - US$3.65

which sure didn't sound like a Coca-Cola site to me, but try entering
that URL in your browser, and see where you wind up....!

Let me know if you have any questions on this.

Have fun.
