Hi Peter

Thanks for your additional comments and for your compliments re:
Google Answers :)

What I will do is start to look at your question and attempt to
provide you with at least a general outline of some of the key areas
that you highlighted in your additional comments. With the type of
answer I have in mind, you should at least have enough information to
keep you busy and to provide you with further resources which you can
follow up. If you then decide that you require further and/or more
specific answers, you can then post another, separate question at a
later date.

**Please note that while I am undertaking this research, I have
deliberately left your question "unlocked" so that another researcher
who may be able to provide the answer quicker can have a chance to
answer your question as well**

Dear Petermn

You may wish to clarify your question further. For example,

1. Where do you want to set up your venture capital/private equity
fund - you mention the UK but are you also looking for options such as
the possibility of setting up the main office in a tax haven and
running the branch office out of the UK?
2. What type of venture capital/private equity fund are you looking to
run i.e. what types of money and investors are you targeting?
Technology, luxury goods, retail, US money, UK money, high wealth
individuals, syndicates of investors?
3. Re: "everything I need to know about seeting up and running a
venture capital/private equity fund" - you might want to specify
exactly what you want to know about as "everything I need to know" is
probably beyond the $20 list price - there are many aspects such as
tax, corporate, legal, financial regulations, statutory requirements,
personal qualifications required by fund managers, compliance issues,
accounting issues and so on.

Dear Jem

Thank-you for getting back to me so soon, I appreciate it.

I am looking for information to assist me in building a business plan
that will allow me to lauch a venture capital fund which is managed in
the UK but potentially able to invest in companies globally as well as
attracting investors globally.

To that end I am indeed looking for "everything I need to know about
setting up and launching a VC Fund" and if you think you can provide
me with the requisite amount of detailed information I would be happy
to increase the price I am paying for this information to $100.

I am particularly keen to look at the options of setting up the fund
in a tax haven.

All the best

Peter

Sorry Jem I forgot to answer one of your questions regarding the type
of fund I want to set up.

I am looking at investing the fund in the following industries -
Technology, health and fitness, financial serives, retail, service
industries.

The investment will come from high net worth individuals in the UK
initially but I want to establish the fund so that in the future I may
attract investment on a global level.

Thanks

Peter

PS This is a great service - exactly what I have been looking for in a
search engine, the ability to talk to an expert who knows what they
are talking about. You guys appear to have your Customer Relationship
Management sorted out

Hi Peter

Further to my clarification request posted 30th July, I am writing to
let you know that at present, I am unable to research your question in
the amount of detail which I believe you want and therefore am
continuing to leave it unlocked to give other researchers a chance to
answer it should they choose to do so.

In the meantime, I am listing a few websites which I think you should
have a look at:

1. Venture Capital Guide "How To" site (UK based) - very basic but
very good site giving a general "how to" overview of setting up
venture capital/private equity funds

http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~sblack01/vc.htm

2. British Venture Capital site (UK based) - leading UK site for
venture capital related matters

http://www.bvca.co.uk/

3. Business Plan Pro (US Business Planning Software) - $99.95

http://www.paloalto.com/ps/bp/ppc.cfm?ac=googleselect,bpgs

and the UK version of the same software (£99.99 with a 60 day money
back guarantee) can be found at

http://www.paloalto.co.uk/

4. VCR Business Angel Club - billed as "UK's foremost business angel
network, matching private investors with entrepreneurs seeking equity
capital." Well worth a look - they also have a list of recommended
books including "Leading Edge Business Planning for Entrepreneurs" by
James Arkebauer and Jack Miller.

http://www.vcr1978.com/

5. Another book that I would recommend is "The Venture Capital
Handbook" by Bygrave, Hay and Peeters - bear in mind that it was
written during the dot.com craze and so may present a somewhat biased
view. Having said that, it has excellent chapters on legal
structures, tax implications and statutory requirements relating to
venture capital set ups.

You can find both books mentioned here at the UK Amazon site,
specifically,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/157410117X/ref=sr_aps_books_1_1/202-4003111-3354223

for the book by Arkebauer and Miller and at

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0273638998/qid=1028209842/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1_1/202-4003111-3354223

for the book by Bygrave, Hay and Peeters

Hope the above is able to assist you.

With kind regards
Jem-ga
