kentsubra-ga,

If you have access to Dun and Bradstreet's "Million Dollar Directory",
this is probably the best single source of information for what you
need.

Quite a number of public (and university) libraries offer online
access to their databases, so you might want to inquire at your local
library.

MDD is available in both a North American and International format,
and each one lists well over a million companies that are easily
sorted by sales.

For instance, sorting the US list by sales shows these guys as the top 5:

1. Wal-Mart Stores Inc $258,681,000,000

2. Exxon Mobil Corporation $246,738,000,000

3. General Motors Corporation $185,524,000,000

4. Ford Motor Company $165,066,000,000

5. General Electric Company $134,187,000,000

and these folks as #5000-5005

5000. Mission St Josephs Health Sys $562,037,000

5001. Huber Engineered Woods LLC $562,000,000

5002. Fletcher Allen Health Care $561,955,000

5003. Ksl Recreation Group Inc $561,834,000

5004. Squibb Manufacturing Inc $561,732,000

5005. Hess Oil Virgin Island Corp $561,600,000

==========

Is this the sort of thing you're looking for...?

Yes, this seems pretty appropriate. However, i am guessingthe MDD
covers only North America. WHat about Europe and Asia-Pacific? Even if
not the top 10,000, maybe the top 2000 in eacch region?

The MDD is available in both a N. Amer and an international edition,
as you can see from the desciption on the MDD homepage:

-----
http://www.dnbmdd.com/mddi/

D&B's North American Million Dollar Database provides the information
professional, marketer and sales executive with information on
approximately 1,600,000 U.S. and Canadian leading public and private
businesses. Company information includes industry information with up
to 24 individual 8-digit SICs, size criteria (employees and annual
sales), type of ownership, principal executives and biographies.

D&B's International Million Dollar Database (IMDDI) is the answer for
those research professionals who require information on over 1,600,000
international companies. Find SIC, total employees, legal status,
annual US sales dollar equivalent, and more, plus identify up to four
(4) executives on the world's largest entities. Search, lookup, report
and download this information with just a few mouse clicks.

Again, let me know if this meets your needs, and if it doesn't, please
provide a bit more detail about what you're after.

Thanks.
