Four years ago I was in Switzerland and bought a quartz battery operated Cookoo clock. The clock came with a small piece of paper which gave instructions how to re-set the clock by moving the hands in a certain way so that the cookoo would come out and give the sound of the cookoo bird while the little door opened on the hours. I lost these instruction and I have never been able to set the clock so that the cookoo works sincronized with the time. Do you have any suggestions as to how to set the clock so that the coockoo is synchronized with the time with the hands are marking? PS the Cookoo work but not sycnchronized with the hours, |

To adjust the time on most clocks you just move the minute hand, by hand. Sometimes you have to let each chime position ring out before moving it on or you can lose synchronisation. Always though, it should be turned clockwise and never move the hour hand by hand. This however doesn?t help you much now. Though it is quartz controlled, it is still basically mechanical so those adjusting instructions should still apply -- unless this is a weird piece of kit I have never encountered. All is not lost though. It is usually very easy to remove the hands and reposition them in the synchronised position. Sometimes there is a nut on the spindle which has to be removed but more usually they are simply push-on. That?s the reason they often go out of sync because it is only a friction grip so can be forced to move. To remove friction gripped hands, a couple of small screwdrivers, one on each side of the boss, they can be eased off -- the top one first of course. This sounds horribly crude, I know, but it?s what clock repairers do. As for the cuckoo, take the battery out for a few days and maybe it?ll starve to death :-) Best |

Yes, I have tried to adjust the time by moving the minute hand, and wait for the chime to ring the necessary number of times but it does not work every time. It chimes only certain times and not in syncronization witht he time. Other wise the clock works fine, and keeps accurate time. The cookoo has become a bum and comes out only when it wants to. Maybe the best thing is to make cookoo soup with it. :) |

?cookoo soup? LOL. Different spelling in UK apparently. Sometimes the friction grip of the hands on the spindle is not as tight as it should be so when you move them the associated mechanism goes out of sync. There is an internal ?slip? mechanism inside as well which can also play up. If you can turn the hands to the a specific cuckooing -- six cuckoos is easiest -- pull off the hands and push them back on at six o-clock. But you say the cooking is intermittent, so perhaps your cuckoo is indeed cooked (in the soup). I blame global warming. Shouldn?t actually be difficult to repair but might cost as much as you paid for it. Sorry you are not just down the road as I?d do it for fun, but maybe you know someone? Best |
