Hello minerswife-ga.

Thanks for your challenging question.

Although there were no consultants listed that mentioned specific
expertise with scandium alloys, there is certainly a wealth of
expertise available on aluminum processing and metallurgy.

Your best starting place for information about consultants in the
aluminum industry is probably a site known as Aluminpro:

http://www.aluminpro.com/Consultants.htm
ALUMINIUM INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS Inc.

Their list of consultants -- although focused on the upstream part of
the business -- also includes a heavy focus on manufacturing
experience. For instance, take note of the following experts:

----------
A. Michael Barr - Alumina Process Engineer

Career Profile: Broad international involvement for 31 years in the
alumina industry with emphasis on process engineering. Positions
include technical specialist, technical manager, process control
superintendent, senior process engineer, production superintendent and
process engineer. Expertise spans bauxite resources, digestion,
clarification, filtration, and precipitation areas of alumina
refining.

Bernard L. Cousineau - Gen. Mngt. Bauxite & Alumina Operations

Career Profile: Chief Executive Officer / General Manager with a
consistent record of major step change improvements . International
experience in mining and manufacturing, with strong focus on
government and customer relations gained over a 30 year career in the
industry.

Phillip Fournet - Environmental - Aluminum & Chemical

Career Profile: Mr. Fournet has extensive experience in bauxite
refining operations, and design and operation of several chemical
plants. Positions included production manager in bauxite refining
operations and plant manager of chemicals plants. As a corporate
environmental manager, represented Kaiser in commenting on and
negotiating Federal Guidelines for NPDES permitting for all of it's
point source categories, including aluminum, chemical and agricultural
chemical. Provided corporate environmental oversight for all of
Kaiser's domestic manufacturing facilities. Represented Kaiser's
interests on PRP groups for a number of superfund sites and supported
legal efforts in recovery of insurance funds for environmental
remediation projects.

Colin J. Campbell - Refinery Operations Improvement & Commissioning

Career Profile: Extensive, hands-on operational experience in alumina
refineries. Played a leading role in both the start-up of a new
refinery and the largest refinery expansion to date. Responsible for
the debottlenecking of existing facilities. Achieves a constant high
refinery operating-factor through personnel training and the
re-engineering of maintenance management practices. Works alongside
operators, process engineers and front line supervisors to improve
plant reliability and reach production targets.

Dr. David R. Chinloy - Process Consultant

Career Profile: With over twenty years in the bauxite-alumina
industry, Dr. David Chinloy has wide experience in plant operations,
process control, cost minimization strategies, energy reduction and
computer applications. Having spent one-half of his career in research
and development and the other half in operations, David has a deep
understanding of the Bayer process technology, particularly bauxite
extraction, desilication, lime chemistry, heat exchange, solid-liquid
separation and impurity removal systems.

B.J. Foster - Alumina Technology & Engineering

Career Profile: Mr. Foster has 40 years industrial experience with
proven ability in the management of production, technical and
engineering units. BJ has over 30 years experience in the alumina
industry with Kaiser Aluminum in Gramercy and Alpart, most recently as
VP and GM Engineering and Technology before becoming a consultant in
late 2002. He started his alumina career in 1971 and assumed many
management and technical roles, including operations manager,
technical manager, process development manager and engineering
manager. Since 1986 he had overall Engineering and Technical
responsibility for the Bauxite and Alumina group of Kaiser worldwide
and added responsibility for smelters to this in 2001.

We are satisfied with what you have done. We really need to engage
Aluminium Alloy consultants. However, we are going to Secat's
consultants who seem to be suitable. Do you have any others.

Clarification of Answer by pafalafa-ga on 24 Feb 2005 13:22 PST
Hello again,

I'm glad the information I provided led to some useful leads. I've
searched high and low for additional consultants with a specialty in
alloys. I've only come up with one candidate, and it's a bit of an
unusual circumstance.

A site called chemindustry.com has a pretty deep database of
consultants, but they don't tell upfront exactly WHO the consultant
is.

You can see what I mean at this link:

http://chemindustry.intota.com/viewbio.asp?mode=&bioFile=/xml/biofull/603160data.xml&bioID=603160&perID=108383

This consultant has a lot of aluminum alloy experience:

"...directed the development of high-strength alloys at Alcoa for much
of his career. He either developed or directed the development of
almost every modern alloy used today on aircraft. He also had a hand
in developing many of the alloys used in the automotive industry. In
his early years, Jim did research on alloys that are used in the
packaging and construction industries."

However, the site does not provide the conultants name or contact
information. In order to make contact, you'll have to press the
"Start a Project" button. This will allow you to submit a form that
will be reviewed by the consultant in question, who will then get back
to you.

As far as I can see, there is not commitment involved in submitting
the form...it is merely a request for additional information.

I hope that helps. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

we would like to extend our search to Europe, preferably in Russia for
a consultant(s) or consultancy group with experience in the aluminium
industry specializing in manufacturing, aluminium alloys and scandium
alloys.

Hello again,

Try contacting this fellow:

http://timworstall.typepad.com/lhfc/

tcw@timworstall.com

He certainly seems to have deep expertise in the aluminum-scanadium
connection, although it's a bit hard to know from his website exactly
what sort of background he has, or where in the world he is!

Let me know how this works out. In the mean time, I'm continuing to
search for additional contacts, and I'll let you know in a day or two
what I come up with.

Hello again,

Thus far, I haven't come across any promising new leads for
consultants with the right sort of credentials.

Have you had any luck with Tim Worstall, who I mentioned in my
previous post. He certainly seemed promising, in terms of the overlap
of his experience and the particular needs that you have.

Please let me know the status of things as soon as you have contacted Tim.

And rest assured, I'm happy to do further research on this question if
the need arises...just let me know.
