I need info/links for funeral homes with the highest amount of
burials. By state would be nice--something similar to "xyz Funeral
home Anywhere, Ohio, 300 burials in 2004" Failing that, burials by
county (or town is ok), as in "Ohio: Madison County, 500; Richmond
County, 459, etc." Must have either the the name of Funeral home or
specific county/city. Can't be just by state.

I found a list of over 2000 funeral homes in the US, but there isn't
any information I can see on the number of burials.

A typical listing looks like this:

-----
Fulton-Theroux Funeral Services, Inc
Contact: Joseph R Fulton
181 Ocean Ave
New London
CT 06320
Phone: (860) 443-8355
Fax: (860) 437-4484
email: loc2695@sci-us.com
-----

Would that be of use to you as an answer to your question, even
without the numerical information?

Hello kayto22-ga,

I?ve done some preliminary research and this is going to be a tough
research project. I found that there are 15,000 companies in the US
funeral industry which operate 16,000 funeral homes. I?ve found a
couple of expensive market research reports that might give you the
information you need. One of them indicates that the ?top 10 companies
generate about 30 percent of total industry revenue.? I?m not sure if
the report would provide detailed information about number of burials
conducted. I?ve found one article that indicates the average funeral
home conducts 75 burials per year. Another article gave the average as
a wider range of ?50 to 250 traditional funerals per year.? I?ve also
found some general information about the growth of cremations as
compared to burials in recent years. I don?t know if this type of
research is useful to you.

It seems that the specific information you?re looking for is not
readily available ? certainly not at the price you?ve set for your
question.

Sorry about the difficulty of the question--I had no idea. I figured
there was some sort of records that had to be submitted to a state
when a funeral home buried someone, but I couldn't find it online
either. Sorry, pafalafa, I have that type of record at work. BTW,
this would be useful to me at work--but the boss isn't going to pay
for this, I am. All I can afford. czh, still too vague, sorry.

Appreciate your help.

katto-ga,

It occured to me that maybe you don't really need burials, perhaps you
just need to know size.

A list of funeral homes can be generated according to their revenue
figures. For instance, the largest funeral homes in the country, by
revenue (but not in order), are:

NEPTUNE SOCIETY INC 4312 WOODMAN AVE # 3 SHERMAN OAKS, CA 91423

ROSE HILLS MEMORIAL PARK 3888 WORKMAN MILL RD WHITTIER, CA 90601

WESTMINSTER MEMORIAL PARK 14801 BEACH BLVD WESTMINSTER, CA 92683

APAC FLORIDA INC 290 LEE S PL DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, FL 32435

GARDEN OF MEMORIES 4207 E LAKE AVE TAMPA, FL 33610

J COLLINS FUNERAL HOME 206 S CARROLL RD VILLA RICA, GA 30180

REST HAVEN FUNERAL HOME 4400 BARDSTOWN RD LOUISVILLE, KY 40218

STEWART ENTERPRISES INC 1333 S CLEARVIEW PKWY JEFFERSON, LA 70121

  D W NEWCOMER'S SONS 1331 BRUSH CREEK BLVD KANSAS CITY, MO 64110

ALDERWOODS GROUP INC 311 ELM ST # 1000 CINCINNATI, OH 45202

ROLLER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME 3651 AUSTIN PEAY HWY MEMPHIS, TN 38128

CARRIAGE SERVICES INC 1900 SAINT JAMES PL # 4 HOUSTON, TX 77056

MISSION PARK FUNERAL CHAPELS 1700 SE MILITARY DR SAN ANTONIO, TX 78214

RESTLAND MEMORIAL PARK-FUNERAL 13005 GREENVILLE AVE DALLAS, TX 75243

I couldn't provided you with a complete list for the nation, but I can
certainly show you how to generate such a list on your own...the final
product *may* be available at no charge, if your local library has the
right resources, but if not, you would have to purchase it from a
commercial service.

Let me know what you think.

Yes, pafalafa, that would be close enough! But why the library?
Surely you don't mean a library in each state--why would the internet
not have the info?

This would fill the bill!

Thanks...

kayto22-ga,

I'm glad that would work for you, but let me clear about internet vs library.

The list I'm talking about is available over the internet from a
commercial service...in other words, it can be purchased.

The only way to get it for free would be if you have access to a
library that subscribes to the service, also over the library's
internet connection. Many local libraries do have such
subscriptions...in fact, I can access it through my local library,
which is how I obtained the small list I gave you.

I can't post the full list itself, since it's protected by copyright.
I can only tell you how to get it from either a commercial source or
(if you're lucky) from your local library.

Sorry to have to offer such a convoluted explanation of things, but
that's the way the system works sometimes.

If you're still interested in the details, let me know, and I'll post
the information as an answer to your question.

Thats would be just fine. I live in a small town, but I go frequently
to a larger one to shop--just did not want to get off my lazy @#$@,
lol.

Thanks

A Market Research Report is likely the best source for your answer, an
example being this report:

Funeral Homes and Funeral Services in the US Market Research Industry
Report - Definition - by IBISWorld
http://www.ibisworld.com/industry/definition.asp?industry_id=1726

But with the cost of $500, I realize why you come here.

Greetings,
My sister is active in a burial society - or whatever they are
called, an organisation for members to provide them with reasonably
priced funerals (remember "The American Way of Death"). I believe
that I remember her saying that there is/has been a lot of
"consolidation" in the industry, hidden by the continuing use of local
names. The image of "funeral homes" as an industry is not attractive
to the bereaved customers, especially as one with a nation-wide net.
This could have an influence on any figures available or provided. I
had the recollection that this consolidation was greater than Czh's 15
m co.s operating 16 m homes, or ten co.s geting 30% of the business.
(Somehow I object to the idea that they "generate" the business;
"capture" it maybe; "have that share of the turnover" - excluding the
secondary market from the figure of speech.)
Anyway ...
