Hi kate,

The white residue is frost. It might look bad, but it's not
dangerous. It accumulates with the presence of oxygen and moisture.
To reduce the frost, use moisture and vapor-resistant wraps.

Moisture and vapor-resistant wraps, which are exceptionally effective
at excluding oxygen, include heavyweight aluminum foil, coated and
laminated papers, polyethlene films, saran, and polyester films. They
should be strong and pliable so the wrap will adhere readily to
irregularly shaped objects, and eliminate as much air as possible to
avoid frost accumulation inside. Careful wrapping is of no avail if
the package breaks. It should be easily sealed, either by heatsealing
or freezing tape.

Also, it would help tremendously if you only put COLD food in the
freezer. Allow food to cool, then cool it down in the fridge, and use
the wrapping methods suggested above. Only transfer food to the
freezer when cold.

Hope this helps! If I can help further, please don't hesitate to ask
via the "Request For Clarification" feature.

Residue could be byproduct of plastic reacting with high-fat content
foods being microwaved.
