Question ID: 516632
Require a directory or listing of all federal probation officers and
pretrial services specialists throughout the country. The U.S.
Probation Office is part of the U.S. District Courts circuit. There
are 94 federal District Courts. There are approximately 6,000
probation officers and pretrial services specialists assigned to these
federal District Courts. Minimum contact information should include
name, title, organization, address, phone. Additional fields such as
fax and email address would be preferred.

I haven't found a directory or listing of all federal probation
officers and pretrial services specialists. However, I have found a
directory in which you can find addresses and telephone numbers for
all probation and pretrial services offices, along with a link to the
respective district court (or sometimes office) website. Would a link
to this directory, and instructions in how to search for this
information, be a sufficient answer?

In response to the question clarification request posted by justaskscott-ga:

I've already reviewed the Adult Probation and Parole Directory
provided by the American Probation and Parole Association.
Unfortunately, it only provides the main Probation Office for each of
the fifty states.

If this is the same source you are referencing it does not provide
contact information. On the other hand, if your source can provide
contact information I'm interested.

Thank you for the effort. I ask that you continue your research since
it appears you are getting close (if you aren't already there).

Sincerely,
govmil-ga

My source isn't the Adult Probation and Parole Directory. My source
provides the main telephone number(s), address(es), and link to the
court (or office) website, for the office(s) in each district of each
state.

Would that be sufficient?

In response to the question clarification request #2 posted by justaskscott-ga:

If the referenced links provide contact records of information for
probation and pretrial services officers you have a sufficient answer.
However, please check the links to insure no more than 1 level of
browsing to reach the contact records.

Please let me know if you believe your response meets my objectives.

I appreciate your effort.

Addendum to clarification #2:

Links to the District Courts are not what I need. If your source
provides links to the Probation/Pretrial Offices within the District
Courts I am interested.

Thank you once again.

My source provides links to the probation or pretrial services offices
only where the office has a separate web site -- for example,
http://www.prpt.uscourts.gov/ for the U.S. Pretrial Services Office
for the District of Puerto Rico, rather than
http://www.prd.uscourts.gov/ for the U.S. District Court for the
District of Puerto Rico. Many districts do not have separate web
sites for probation and pretrial services offices.

For justaskscott-ga:

I really appreciate your effort but I've covered the uscourts.gov site
already. At first glance it appeared to provide the information I need
but it falls short in that I have to browse to 94 sites. Even then I
had to work just to come up with a few contact records.

These are the major associations affiliated with Probation and
Pretrial Services Officers:
o	American Correctional Association
o	American Probation and Parole Association
o	National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies
o	National Association of Probation Executives

Perhaps their memberships directories are available to the public. If
you can extract data from the member databases I'll gladly consider it
done. In fact, I'll up the value to $100.00.

Thanks again.

govmil-ga,

I've been looking into your question along with my colleague, justaskscott-ga.

Some of the organizational directories you asked about are definitely
available, but generally these sorts of things have to be purchased
directly from the organization themselves...it is very rare that we
would be able to post a large membership listing right here as an
answer to a question.

However, the membership directories probably go well-beyond the
specific target audience you identified. For instance, the ACA
membership list -- which is available for sale -- is described as
follows:

"...76,000 names of American and Canadian correctional practitioners
including: wardens and superintendents, probation and parole
personnel, sheriffs and jailers, ACA convention attendees, justice
architects and design firms, purchasing agents and many more..."

I'd be glad to track down information for the four groups you
mentioned to see if lists are available, and the particulars about how
to obtain them.

Would that suit you as an answer to your question? Let me know.

How about this: Would a list of links to probation and pretrial
services offices' contact web pages -- in other words, web pages
containing at least the office address and telephone number -- be a
sufficient answer?

I was writing my previous comment at the same time that pafalafa
posted. If you'd like, you could let pafalafa research an answer
first. If pafalafa is unable to track down the information he seeks,
I could then provide my answer.

Response to justaskscott-ga:

You have links to probation & pretrial services websites that provide
contact information. How many links do you have in total?

Thank you.

Update to question:
The reason for requesting a list of probation and pretrial services
officers is because we manufacture field test kits for drug offenders.
If you discover another target market other than probation and
pretrial I am interested.

Thank you once again.

govmil-ga

PS: I appreciate your effort and thus raised the dollar amount to $100.00.

I have not gathered up or countered the links yet -- I wanted to get
your approval before doing so. The research I've done so far suggests
that most offices have a contact page, though I couldn't yet say
whether all do. In every instance where there is a contact page, I
believe I will find it.

The first line of my previous comment should read, "I have not
gathered up or *counted* the links yet ...."
