I do know there is legitimate work (from working at home) People are
doing it but I can't seem to find out who is hiring for something like
this.  I want a data entry job of some kind, so I can work out of my
house so I will not have to leave my children.  Thank You

people's minds these days! I work at home as a freelance writer, and
it's a lifestyle I will never give up. There are many places online
that list data entry and other types of work at home. You are right,
there are many scams out there, and I would advise you to stay away
from anything that asks you for money to work for them. You should not
pay to work for someone!

I subscribe to this newsletter, it comes out every day, and always has

There are a lot of sites that charge you for books or information
about companies that hire telecommuters. Don't buy them, they are a
rip-off! You're better off going to corporate web sites that operate a
division in your area, and asking if they hire telecommuters. Many
large companies do. This information is also available free on many

Finally, I must say, don't get discouraged. It took me a year to find
my first telecommuting full-time job, and it ended during the
"dot.bomb" last year. However, during that time I built up a client
base, and I never stop looking for new work. You can work at home, and
love it! It just takes time and perserverance. I spend part of each
week, (and sometimes each day) looking for jobs, filling out
employment applications, and searching for freelance opportunities.
Working at home isn't easy, but it's the best career option I've
found! I hope you find a great job, and love working at home as much
as I do!

Just an additional warning - probably not necessary. Ignore any want
ads in newspapers for this sort of work, they are 99.99% scams.

Having worked as a freelancer for 24 years now I can promise that
there are openings. I want to suggest that you advertise in a local
paper since data entry will probably require you to get actual papers
and for that a local business is easiest to deal with.

You might consider building a small, inexpensive or free Web site
describing your services, perhaps using Yahoo's Geocities or
Homestead.com, or one offered by your ISP for free.  Keep it simple.

Then visit Google's main page www.google.com and look at the Ad-Words
program:

Using Google you can advertise your services via your simple Web site
for just a few pennies, adjusting the ad to appear when someone uses
key words which you can keep changing until you get the right hits.

Just set a very low price limit for each test and you'll risk very
little money. You might want to try "data entry" "freelance" and "your
town/city name" just to test it out.
