vic4444-ga,

It would help to have a bit more information as I'm working on your question:

--What sort of pain? Heartache? Backache?

--Any particular sort of celebrities in mind, or is any famous person fair game?

--Current names, or historical as well? (JFK was famously ailing with
back pains, for instance).

--How many names are you hoping to have in your answer?

Any information you can add would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello again Vic4444,

Below you will find a list of 23 celebrities who have stated or
about whom it has been reported that they suffer from pain.

--------------
1. Paula Abdul
--------------

American Idol judge and celebrity Paula Abdul announced that following
a 25 year battle with chronic pain, precipitated by a cheerleading
accident when she was 17 years old, a new diagnosis (RSD) and new
course of treatment (Enbrel) has produced amazing results.

3. Melanie Griffith
-------------------

?In 1978, she went to a movie and dinner with Ricci Martin (son of
Dean Martin). Upon leaving La Dome, a restaurant on Sunset Boulevard,
a car ran through the crosswalk and hit Melanie. The front of the car
struck her hip in mid-stride, whiplashing her head back into the
windshield. As the car screeched to a stop, Melanie catapulted more
than a dozen feet forward to the curbside, hitting with great force.
Melanie was rushed to a hospital. To this day, Melanie still
experiences pain from that accident.?

4. Karen Duffy (Actress)
------------------------

?Duffy described her headaches as, "A burning, sharp pain that felt
like I was being electrocuted, and it wasn't consistent. It was a dull
ache. It would be every 30 to 45 seconds."

?For Duffy, sarcoidosis meant intense, chronic pain throughout her
body, as well as other problems.?

?But despite the pain, Duffy refused to feel sorry for herself.?

?Her portrait also appears in the "Many Faces of Pain" exhibition
sponsored by a manufacturer of pain medication.?

5. Bo Derek
6. Joe Theismann
7. Debbie Allen
8. Corbin Bernsen
------------------

?Just ask celebrities like actress Bo Derek, former Washington
Redskins star quarterback Joe Theismann, and television stars Debbie
Allen and Corbin Bernsen.

The four were on hand last night for a reception in New York City that
was sponsored by Partners Against Pain, an educational program
designed to focus attention on the prevalence of chronic pain and how
important it is to get treatment.?

(?)

"You have to be proactive," said Derek, who bewitched Dudley Moore in
the 1979 comedy 10. She explained how years of horseback riding had
weakened her back and led to a herniated disk that was extremely
painful.

"Do your homework about your pain, find the right doctor, do
everything he says and make choices," she said.

Theismann, the winning quarterback in Super Bowl XVII, said his
struggles with pain were due to countless injuries suffered on the
football field.
"There were times when I didn't want to get out of bed. I was scared
to death that one sneeze or movement the wrong way would make me so
debilitated that I wouldn't be able to do anything again," he said.

After his 15-year pro career that included seven broken noses, a
broken collarbone, broken legs, broken hands and broken ribs,
Theismann said he has learned to "function carefully."

Famed dancer and choreographer Debbie Allen
-------------------------------------------

?Like Earl Monroe, famed dancer and choreographer Debbie Allen keeps
her body active through dance, despite the painful sciatica in her
lower back. "To dance is to ask one's body to bend, extend, leap, jump
and hold position ... it is amazingly beautiful and amazingly
painful," says Allen, who is a spokesperson for the Many Faces of Pain
photo exhibit, a program sponsored by the Partners Against Pain. "Pain
management is something people should take very seriously and seek the
help they need without hesitation or embarrassment," says Allen, who
manages her sciatica through acupuncture, stretching exercises and
medicines.?

25 operations, including two hip replacements and surgery on both
knees. After 13 years in the NBA and eight years of tournament tennis,
Monroe says, "I started feeling excruciating pain in my hip and back
area."

?But, through a range of tools, including acupuncture, herbal
supplements and anti-inflammatory medicines, the former NBA All-Star
has learned to manage effectively. "The pain has forced me to continue
working out, to stay active, and to make exercise a part of my daily
routine," says Monroe. "You must keep your body active and not allow
yourself to slip into a sedentary state"

Hi bobbie7

In answer to you question, at this point in time, more towards the
type of pain related to arthritis, although back pain, and the like
are fine. Nope not historical, people who are alive, celebrites who
might be good endorsers. Say from ages 40+ unless you come acroos
someone very interesting like the Abdul angle. Sorry I did not answer
sooner I was out of town and no computer access.
