I am looking for online mentoring sites that cover a wide areas. It
has different disciplines and are open for people to join.

Clarification of Question by june126-ga on 12 Jun 2005 11:42 PDT
By "Mentoring" I mean more like coaching, not just answering
questions. Someone is on the side, helping the mentee. For example,
MentorNet http://www.mentornet.net/ is providing mentoring help for
students from faculty.
Big Brothers and Big sisters http://www.bbbsa.org/ is another example.
I am interested to see if there are more sites out there and provide a
wider reach in mentoring.

Hello, june126-ga!

I have compiled a list of sites dedicated to online mentoring. While
most are focused on children or teens, I included a few which cater to
adult professionals as well.

iMentor
========
http://www.imentor.org/home.jsp

"iMentor matches young people from underserved communities in New York
City with adult volunteers. Mentors & mentees email one another
regularly, meet in-person a few times each semester at
iMentor-sponsored events, and collaborate on-line on projects designed
to improve students' reading, writing, research, and technology
skills. Young people develop relationships with caring adults while
gaining important skills; schools & youth agencies use technology in
new ways to help their students; and adults have a flexible and
meaningful way to volunteer with youth!"

Achievement Advocates
=====================
http://www.achievementadvocate.org/default.asp

"The Achievement Advocate Online Mentoring Community was founded in
2000 by Student Achievement and Advocacy Services, a nonprofit
501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping students maximize their
potential. The Achievement Advocate program is staffed by educators
experienced in distance learning and curriculum development. The
program is built on the belief that barriers to student success are
often more than financial. Help us break patterns of failure for
children who simply need extra support and encouragement to succeed!
Each student enrolled in the program is assigned an on-line adult
mentor. This personal coach joins with parents and teachers to create
a team dedicated to building the life skills each student needs to set
goals and achieve their dreams."

I've written an article that mentions ways of getting human-assisted
support. I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "mentoring". If you
need some sort of technical or informational assistance, though, this
might help:

you've found that one already!
