I need a list of popular classifieds websites in Australia (sites
where people or businesses post items for sale or trade or barter.
Also general communities of exchange/announcements, such as

I do not want sites that focus on just one category (e.g. autos, or
toys, or musical instruments).

I do not need to know the following (some of which might not fit into
the category anyway): eBay, Trading Post, graysonline Australia,,,,,,, Checkout, The Pitstop Bookshop,

Thank you.

Hello there.

I found a bunch, and can probably find a bunch more, but there are two
things to note:

1. It's hard to gauge the popularity of some of the sites, though the
one's that pop up earliest in searches tend to be the major sites.

2. How many such sites are you hoping to receive as an answer to your question?

Let me know what you think. In the mean time, here's the list as I've
got it so far:
Yahoo! Australia & NZ - Classifieds
Cracker Classifieds - Australia's free classified community | Classifieds
Daily Classifieds, Free Classifieds in Australia
Checkout, Classifieds Classifieds Australia
Brisbane classifieds
My Trading Post
Sydney Exchange
OzAds - Free Classifieds
Classifieds - Free Online Classifieds
Canberra Exchange
Hobart Exchange
Classifieds of Australia

I want a comprehensive list. That is a bit vague, and is is unlikely
that there are more than a dozen or so that are popular. That kind of
number is fine, as long as the sites seem to be fairly popular.
Although you can't always tell, a quick glance at the number of items
for sale will flag any sites with limited usage.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll take my best shot at putting together a
comprehensive list.

In the mean time, if you have a chance to give me any feedback on the
sites already listed, that would help in focusing my research.

Are these the sort of sites you're looking for? In particular, is a
geographically local site like "Brisbane classifieds" OK to include,
or do you only want sites that cover all Australia?

For instance, this site:

shows listings in the thousands and hundreds range:

View ads in Fairfax Classifieds

and more?(1,695 ads)

Trades & services - Plumbers, Electricians, Accountants and more?(2,004 ads)

General Auctions - Antiques, Collectables, Auto?s, Furniture and more? (86 ads)

Tenders - Private and Government tenders (301 ads)

Personals - Introductions and Agency services (464 ads)

Notices - Births, Engagements, Marriages, Deaths, Funerals, In
Memoriam and more?(1,368 ads)

Does that rate as "popular"?

I've been doing a fair amount of poking around, and I think I have a
pretty comprehensive list at this point.

In addition to the links already provided, here are the major
classified sites that serve Australia, and that have a broad focus in
the types of ads offered:
ninemsn Classifieds
Australian Community Exchange
Auction Trader Online
Sydney auction
Garage Sales and Classifieds
Australia Classifieds
Oz Ads
CheckOut Classifieds
Free Ad Net
iNetTrade Australia

I trust this is just what you need. But as always, if there's
anything else I can do on this, just let me know, and I'm at your

search strategy: Searched Google Directory, Yahoo Directory and
several other sources for listings of classified sites in Australia.

I suggest you try BidInn Online Auctions - You
can register to sell for free and the only charge is a 3.25 percent
commission on the price of the item you sell. If you don't sell the
item, you don't pay anything.

It has a 'BuyNow' function also which acts exactly like a classifieds service.

give it a try, see what you think!
