Dear rockface-ga;

Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question. Here I
have provided you with a number of sites where current statistics on
seniors? usage of the internet is discussed. Where practical I have
provided excerpts to show an example of the type of information on
each page:

?Though people over 60 still lag behind their younger counterparts in
Internet usage, the number of seniors online is expected to swell from
14 million in 2000 to more than 27 million in by 2003, according to
Internet market research firm Jupiter Media Metrix.?
INTERNET USAGE AMONG SENIORS
by: Jeremy Trogg
http://www.seniormag.com/compcorner/articles/iusage1201.htm

?65.9% of those aged 50-64 and 27.7% of those 65 and above are online
today, eMarketer says. In 2008 73.7% of those aged 50-64 and 34.1% of
those 65 and above will use Internet.?
27.7% OF AMERICANS 65+ YEARS OLD ARE ONLINE

?There are powerful differences in Internet usage between today's
older Americans and the current senior population. eMarketer estimates
that in 2005 there are 33.2 million people online in the US between
the ages of 50 and 64, triple the number of 65+ online users. ?

?Grace, an octogenarian, takes great pride in staying in touch with
her grandkids through e-mail. She is one of the 11.1 million senior
adults in the U.S. who have gone online as of July, 2004, according to
Nielsen/NetRatings. Numerous reports show that the 65-plus comprise
the fastest growing age group on the Internet. The growing need of
seniors to stay connected is gradually diminishing the digital
divide.?

Here are some statistics that resulted from a study the AARP did on
its own web site:
AARP
http://www.aarp.org/about_aarp/ad_guide/about_ads/a2004-06-04-demographics.html

?Today, two-thirds of adults ages 50-64 use the Internet, compared
with 28% of those 65 and older, according to eMarketer. The current
generation of adults over 65 hasn't fully adopted Internet use, in
large part because many had retired before online access became common
in the workplace?

Here is an excellent survey report on the issue of internet usage by
seniors courtesy of the KAISER FOUNDATION:

Here is a survey that is a little outdated, but interesting
nonetheless. It?s from 2004 but worth of comparison if nothing else:
TODAYS SENIOR NETWORK
http://todaysseniorsnetwork.com/seniors_use_grows.htm

?June 20, 2005 - A solid majority, 69 percent of baby boomers and
senior citizens - ages 50 and up ? with Internet access, at least
occasionally use the Internet to look for health information. ?The new
survey was conducted on behalf of MIAH in May 2005. 1,024 adults ages
50 and older, who currently have Internet access, were questioned via
the Internet. Of those surveyed, 41 percent said they rarely, if ever,
check the source of health information they find on the Web, and 45
percent rarely if ever check to see how current the information is
that they are getting.?
Boomers, Seniors Use Internet for Health Information but Question Credibility
http://www.seniorjournal.com/NEWS/Health/5-06-20Web4Health.htm

?As the Internet becomes an increasingly important resource for
informing decisions about health and health care options, a new
national survey of older Americans by the Kaiser Family Foundation
finds that less than a third (31%) of seniors (age 65 and older) have
ever gone online, but that more than two-thirds (70%) of the next
generation of seniors (50-64 year-olds) have done so.?
