Hello Aprillee76,

I'm assuming you speak Spanish! About 5 years ago, my daughter spent
3 months in Nicaragua, and 3 months in Guatemala doing field research
for her doctorate. We had a terrible time finding an ISP then.
Luckily, with the passage of time, there are a few ISP providers, but
still not many, in Central America. My daughter ended up using
computers in local universities.

According to the FRIDA, Regional Fund for Digital Innovation in the
Latin America and Caribbean, site below, Nicaragua simply does not
have the infrastructure in place to support high speed internet
service as of yet. This is a huge project currently being undertaken

As you can see, according to this chart (Page 3), only about 15% of
Nicaraguanbusinesses have access to internet services, and only 1.4%
of those have broadband(High speed)!.

ISPs in Nicaragua

Roberto Teran

Has broadband and wireless.

This service only offers dial-up, Wi-Fi, and satellite. It may come in
handy should you not find a broadband connection in the part of
Nicaragua you may be visiting.

Internet cafes may be your best choice, if traveling.

Here's one in Lake Nicaragua

Going to Google and entering this string, ading your city/town where
the word [city] is will help you find internet cafes:

internet cafes + [city] + Nicaragua

There you go! If you need further assistance, with Spanish or anything
related to this question, please request an Answer Clarification,
before rating.

Sincerely, Crabcakes

Greetings Aprillee:

I don't think you got a good answer here . . . let me set you
straight. You can use Enitel (the telephone company) to get high speed
Internet anywhere in Nicaragua. If you are in Managua (and maybe
Granada or Leon) you can maybe get Internet through the cable TV
service. I recommend Enitel though because they have the most options
and lower prices (still higher than you would pay in U.S. or Canada
though). Here's a link to their website:

If you are in Managua, you can get ADSL via a fixed phone line. If you
have no phone line of your own and still want high speed Internet, you
can get a tower attached to the roof of your house. The wireless tower
scheme can be installed anywhere in the country. Both of these options
cost about $40 a month for 256 kBs. Installation costs vary. A a tower
costs more than installing the DSL.

I am moving there to do some Internet-based consulting services, so I
have been investigating this for my personal use.
