Question ID: 575143
For each of the following universities in B.C. and Alberta:
British Columbia
?	University of British Columbia
?	University of Northern British Columbia
?	University of Victoria
?	Simon Fraser University
?	Royal Roads University
?	Thompson Rivers University
Alberta
?	University of Alberta
?	University of Calgary
?	University of Lethbridge

please provide an assessment as to whether any of them have graduate
schools and/or research institutes in the following subjects that
could be considered world-class, i.e. where their academic resources
and the quality of their theoretical and applied research and
publications place them at a level comparable to some of the best
universities in the world in these subjects. I don't necessarily require
an exact numerical ranking or standing vs. a vs. other universities;
qualitative assessments or anecdotal information quoted in secondary
sources would suffice (as long as you are able to provide the basis
for your analysis):

?	School of Medicine (including all medical sub-specialties, i.e.
obstetrics, cardiology, etc.)
?	Post ?graduate medical education
?	Nursing Studies
?	Health Sciences

(b)	Educational Development ? including education research and teacher training

(c)	Study of the effects and conditions of early childhood on
subsequent well-being and performance

(d)	International Development, including public administration and
rural development

(e)	Study of economic and social development in mountain regions,

Hello Cambridge1-ga,

Your question presents two parts. One is a list of universities, and
the other one a list of fields, disciplines and specializations. Did
you mean the latter as a set of variables that make necessary part of
the research, or as a guideline to where to focus primarily? I would
willingly address you question under the last premise, but if the
second list makes a necessary part of the research, I believe it would
require a working time beyond what any project at Google Answers could
afford. Please let me know your thoughts on it. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Guillermo

Guillermo,

Thank you for reviewing my question. I have posted another query
(Question ID: 575141) which asks about the world-class reputation of
these universities more generally.

For purposes of this question, I need to learn, for example, whether
the School of Nursing at the University of Alberta would be considered
'world-class' and if so, by whom, and so on. I expect that in many
cases, the answer will be no, with graduate schools at only a few of
these universities truly standing out.

I hope this helps your research.

Hello Cambridge1-ga,

Thank you for your clarification. Now, please consider the following reasoning:

You've posted 9 universities, by 11 fields --that makes 99 separate
assessments. Given that each one needs its particular supporting
information, I estimate about 30 minutes research for each. That would
make an almost 50 net hours work. For a $120 fee, a researcher
receives $90 (75%). Thus, this would be a work for $1.8 an hour. Even
if you offered a $200 fee ($150 for the researcher) and a maximum $100
tip ($250 total), the work would be priced at $5 an hour.
Unfortunately, while I'm interested in the subject, I can't afford it.
Maybe it's fine for another researcher, or else a colleague knows a
way to solve it faster, so I'll let the question open.

However, if you see that the question remains unanswered for some
time, please consider the alternative of prioritizing a lesser number
of universities and / or a lesser number of fields.

Sincerely,

Guillermo

Guillermo,

Thank you for your response and for explaining the economic
considerations that lie behind my request. In your first post, you
had suggested that you might be able to research this question under a
particular set of assumptions/variables/guidelines. Could you explain
this a little more? Is this different from the question I had posted
(Question ID: 575141) which asks about the world-class reputation of
these universities more generally.

Thanks.

Hello Cambridge1-ga,

Thank you for your last clarification. I've seen that you have posted
a set of questions, with different fee offers, for different aspects
of one same subject that I would unify as: excellence of graduate
schools, for a list of universities in Alberta and British Caledonia.
Now, I believe that by answering your question ID: 575141, you'll have
them all answered. That question is formulated in a more practical way
to search and -because there's no need to search by discipline but by
university- and by searching the university offers and its quality
level, you obtain whether they exist or not, their reputation and
their being world class or not. My suggestion is that you keep active
question ID: 575141 and cancel the others -because there's a risk for
researchers to be working on overlapped questions and for you to pay
several times for similar information. Also, raising its money offer
would be nice, since you would be reducing your expenses by canceling
the other questions, and it involves much work indeed. Right now, I'm
locking question ID: 575141 to work on it, if you give me the OK.
Please understand that starting to work in a question is a try, you
actually never know whether a question is answerable until you start
to work on it systematically. However, please be reassured that if I
don't seem to be able to find the information, I would release my lock
timely enough in order to let a fellow researcher take a try. I wait
for your thoughts on it. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Guillermo

Guillermo,

Thank you for working on my question. As you have noted, it would be
appropriate to raise my offer for a comprehensive answer to this
question (that captures my other questions as well). I am ready to do
this. Unfortunately, the lock you have placed on the question
prohibits me from raising the list price. I will commit then to offer
a minimum $50 tip for a comprehensive response to the question, along
the lines you have suggested.

I hope this is helpful.

Hello Cambridge1,

Your proposal is OK for me. Please make sure you cancel all overlapped
questions, including this one, and I'll work on your search according
to question ID: 575141
(http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=575141 ). I'm glad
that we could work out the best way to address your subject. I'll be
in touch.

Regards,

Guillermo
