Is there a way to create a search that would find all "Positive
Related Articles" that are published in newspapers around the company
everyday. "Positive Related Articles" are defined as ones that you
would want to display on a Wood Plaque in the office lobby, conference
room or restaraunt Lobby. see www.thatsgreatnews.com for samples.

Hi rroscoe-ga, Any area you'd particularly include or exclude? Would
you be happy with news sources indexed by Google? What type of output
do you need (i.e., would an RSS feed suffice)?

No I would not by Happy with news sources indexed by Google. I am
not sure what a RSS feed is. It needs to be only articles you could
see being plaqued and hanging on a Company's office, Lawyers office,
Doctors office or resturaunts wall. More examples:

That?s Great News (www.thatsgreatnews.com) we sell elegant,
museum-quality laminated plaques and reprints of articles to
individuals and companies that have recently been prominently featured
in publications throughout the country. It?s one of the easiest
products to sell ?.. Our Outbound Telemarketing Reps sell the original
article on a laminated beautiful wood plaque to someone who was
recently featured in the news, so they can display it proudly.

You will drive sales be helping our customers display their
recognition. These recognition pieces and reprints are:

?	Personal Achievements & Awards
?	Company Achievements
?	Restaurant or Company Reviews
?	Unique
?	Ego Gratifying
?	?Pat on the Back?

Hope this Helps

This is a pretty tricky one to get right on the money, but it
certainly is possible to narrow down the field, so that most (but not
all) of the articles returned are good-news articles.

For instance, here's one attempt at producing a list of recent news:

http://news.google.com/news?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD%2CGGLD%3A2005-04%2CGGLD%3Aen&q=intitle%3A%22top+10%22+OR+intitle%3A%22top+100%22+OR+intitle%3A%22best+in%22+OR+intitle%3Awonderful+OR+intitle%3Aexcellent+OR+intitle%3Aterrific&btnG=Search+News

Let me know if this looks like it's on the right track, and if so, I
can play around with some more variations on the above search.

Cheers,

Hello rroscoe-ga,

Are you interested only in ways to search for news articles yourself
or are you willing to pay for clipping services? Here are some
directories for such services.

http://www.clippingservice.com/
http://www.journalismnet.com/choose/clippings.htm
http://dmoz.org/News/Media/Services/Media_Monitoring/

Are any of these on the right track? I look forward to your clarification.

The Google searches you created is a good start. But need to also go
beyond just "Top 10" or "Best of" news. Also Fortune 500 companies
would not buy these plaques, so we need to omit them. They are
always in the news.

As far as clipping services .... Yes they might work.

>>Also Fortune 500 companies would not buy these plaques, so we need to omit them<<

It would help to know who you actively want to *include*.

What types of businesses (or others) are your target customers?

Here's another crack at getting positive news articles, with a focus
on smaller companies:

http://news.google.com/news?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD%2CGGLD%3A2005-04%2CGGLD%3Aen&q=company+++intitle%3A%22top+10%22+OR+intitle%3A%22top+100%22+OR+intitle%3A%22best+in%22+OR+intitle%3Awonderful+OR+intitle%3Aexcellent++++-au+-australia+-inc+-uk++-dow+-s%26p+-bear

Most of the Fortune 500 are weeded out, but a few slip in here and there.

If these results look promising, it is possible to set up an automatic
email notification every time a new article appears that fits the same
search terms.

In other words, you'll get an email as each new positive story appears in the news.

Let me know how that looks to you.

Hello rroscoe-ga,

Your question is challenging because it seems it should be fairly easy
to formulate a query to get you what you want. The reality is that it
isn?t because you?re trying to find several distinct target groups
that might have similar qualities but don't fit into one query.

You?re looking for people, groups and companies that have recently
received recognition for some achievement who were written up in the
press. Of this large group, you want to target the ones that would be
interested in your plaques so they could show off the recognitions
they received to their friends, associates, customers. As you pointed
out, your target customers are not likely to be in the Fortune 500
league.

I experimented with finding restaurants (one of the target groups on
your list) that might be interested in your plaques. I?ve seen many
framed newspaper articles or various awards displayed in cheap frames
or tacked to the wall and occasionally on a plaque. As I recall, the
newspaper articles are usually from the local paper. Certificates or
awards are usually from publications or trade organizations that
prepare ?top 100 lists? or reader's choice awards.

Here are the results of my trying to formulate a productive search to
help you develop a good prospect list for restaurants.

Annual Best Issue

Take a look at the various search strings and the results for each. As
you can see, some of them yield some good prospects. With some honing,
you could develop search strings that could be repeated on a regular
schedule and lead you to prospects for your plaques.

This approach could be repeated for other likely target groups. The
lists offered by local magazines for annual Best Lists or Reader?s
Choice awards would be excellent for prioritizing categories you might
target. You could develop geographic and category searches as well.

I?m not posting this as an answer because I don?t know how you?re
planning to implement your search strategy. How many leads do you hope
to generate per week/month? Who will be conducting the Web searches?
(The techniques I suggest require someone who is good at Web searching
and can quickly sort out the successful leads from the results.) Do
you have target groups that you are happy with that you hope to
expand?

Please let me know if these suggestions will work for you and whether
this will be a suitable answer to your question.

I?m looking forward to your clarification.
