Julian Phipps started with the Daily Mail straight from Oxford in 1929. At one stage, he drew fashion drawings and then a strip 'Judy' for the Evening Standard. He was Art Editor of the Daily Mirror 1949-1953 and he then rejoined Associated Newspapers as their Art Editor. He planned to go to Malta on 7 October 1980, to retire. His wife, the former Joan (or Joanna) Jones (nee Miller) certainly went to Malta where she died in June 1984, after publishing some exaggerated accounts of her experinces with MI5 during WW2. What happened to Julian? When did he marry Joan/Joanna? Did he ever go to Malta? When did he die? Is there any other info on him? |
